'97 F355 spider w/ 13k. I started the car today to exercise(hasn't been run in 6 weeks) and warmed car up and after hard acceleration came to an idle and the engine developed a miss. After I got on the expressway the slowdown light started flashing so I limped the car home. My mechanic said it would be OK to drive to his shop(10 miles) Does this sound right?

Depends. Are both banks running okay, or is one shut down? If both banks are running, then it should be safe to do so, as long as you don't actually have an overheating cat, that is glowing orange. ;)

90% of the time it is simply a failed cat ECU for the right or left catalyst. Once in a while it can be a bad thermoprobe to the catalyst. The last few % it is actually an overheating catalyst from some ignition or other problem upstream.

Update: I reread your post and you say the first sympton was a misfire...not good. So you could indeed have a problem that could contribute to an overheated catalyst. I would take the safer route and flat bed it to the shop.

I'm beginning to wonder about the mechanic's advice to drive the car with this problem. It sounds like I could do some further harm if I drove it. I am now doubting his expertise and wondering if I should tow it to the authorized Ferrari dealer which is actually closer to my home.
