I took a look at my engine mounts today, to see if I can track down a vibration in my steering wheel and door panels at idle. Door panels stop buzzing when you press against the arm rest and:eek:r lock button. I don’t know if this is normal 360 behavior or not, so I thought I would take a look. The motor mounts were replaced five years and almost 4000 miles ago, according to records from previous owners. Car has 19.5K now. I took some pictures and measurements. There is about 4 mm in between the rubber block and the plate on the front side of the mounts, and about 2.5 mm on the backside. The main rubber bushing in the middle does look a little ballooned to me on top of the mounts. I don’t know what the original specs are, but does this amount of compression seem too much, and time to replace, After this relatively short amount of mileage and time? Or is this normal flat-plane crank Ferrari V8 behavior? And could this be the source of my buzzing door panels and vibrating steering wheel at idle?

Yeah, the backside of each of the mounts is about 2-2.5mm.
Even if they’re not touching yet, could those be the source of the vibrations I’m feeling at idle? To be clear, they go away once I start driving.

Probably not ..you can someone to look at movement when hitting the gas while idling but it looks like you sti have time .. hard vibration on shift is more the symptom of bad mounts ..check the transmission mount ..those go more often and are hard to change ..motor mounts are fairly easy

I have a service record stating a defective gearbox mount was replaced in ‘06 at 9,810 miles during a clutch replacement. But I heard mention that there are 2 gearbox mounts, and easy one and a hard one? Is this accurate?

This is little one in the bottom bit most people don't call that the main mount ..the main mount is on top

I’m hoping it was the main mount on top. The dealership charged 320 for labor to replace it back in 06, but that was during a clutch service so the gearbox was already out. I can’t find a part number on the receipt.
Could it be bad agin after 15 years and 10,000 miles?

yes - definitely - have a look at it with a boroscope to get a better view - you will see if bad or not

I’m assuming it will be clearly torn or disintegrated?

    I would use the 237531 430 mount

it is a greatly improved unit

    use the 188141 chamfered washers

make sure the chamfered portion is facing out

Thanks for the suggestion. I do believe at the bottom of that Ricambi page they suggested the same superseded part

Yes, the 237531 is recommended and somewhat stronger than the 186698
Be sure the centre metal section is installed straight up and down or it will wear out prematurely.
While your there, if you're running any exhaust other than the stock one add part# 67912300
This little heat shield adds a lot of life to the upper mount .Heat is not kind to rubber. Ferrari added it to the sport exhaust option.
Nice to see some good advice being given by all contributors here on this topic.
flash 32 is correct engine mounts are soon ready to be replaced.

Agreed! I really appreciate everyone’s help and advice with my questions!
Concerning the motor mounts, I’ve read different things about people using CS mounts or other upgraded parts. Is there a common consensus at this point on which are the best mounts to replace the OEM 360 engine mounts with? Keeping in mind I’m looking to eliminate the vibrations I can feel, not increase!

They are stiffer, vibrations will be felt more than the upgraded originals. Some like it to be stiffer some don't.
The pics you show us are the correct ones. As for longevity between the two... about the same.

Follow-up to my questions about the gearbox mount. I got a boroscope and took a few pictures. I don’t have a memory card, so forgive the pictures, which I took of the boroscope screen with my phone. One picture from each side of the mount. Is it clear from the condition of the mount that these are torn?
And if so, I assume this could be causing the vibrations I have in the steering wheel and door panels at idle? As well as any “clunkiness” in certain gearshifts?
    Thanks
    Jeremy

Are there options other than OEM? I was just going to go with the OEM upgraded 430 mounts and chamfered washers.

The only reason i said that was because some are using the CS mount which is half the price of $125. Some are charging $250 per mount which i dont understand that

The upgraded 430 mount is just over $100 from Ricambi
