Before today, i expected to find the engine number in the location pointed to by the factory website (of course, i am looking for the new color spec certificate the factory offers).

one of my dino's doesn't have the engine number in the factory specific location.

the car is a usa spec car, originally delivered in houston, to a wealthy person who gave the car as a gift to a doctor (search if you want the history - or better yet, can help me out?). regardless of that, the engine block doesn't have the stamping in the "normal" place for a us spec car.

a 72 coupe i have (03930) has the NORMAL stamping. however, a 72 gts (04274) has a stamping on the side of the block versus the stamping on the rear edge of the block, as perscribed by the ferrari owners site.

does anyone know why a dino would vary? i have long since felt that ferrari wasn't as accurate as they would like to think they are. having said that, i can't be the only perosn that has noted this difference.
