I was looking at a 1987 Testarossa, 2004 360, and a 97 F355 until I found out about the engine out belt maintenance. Wow, they couldn't have placed the belts in a more accessible location?
Ferrari ownership is a special kind of pain a vette guy would have no frame of reference. Being both a Ferrari guy and a vette guy all I can say is the experience of both have many dissimilarities.
What I want is a reasonable repair bill. I mean taking out the engine to replace a little belt??? That would be like having to take the roof off your house to gain access to the attic. ya the main dissimilarity is the corvette easier and cheaper to fix. Anyway soon to be the owner of a Dodge Viper instead
@17 yrs ago my 355 needed the belts/engine out service. After much trepidation, I acquiesced and agreed to 'go ahead' with said service. Visited the service dept during the 'operation' and was aghast at looking at the heart patient sitting there sans engine/heart. Car came back fine and all was well.......till I got the bill. The joys of owning one of those Ferraris. Didn't regret any of it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If anything like this is a concern, it should be quite obvious that a person is not a "Ferrari Guy" or ready to own one. Actually, concerns over any maintenance/repair costs of any car should be evidence for that person not being ready to own one.
Sounds like the Ferrari MC 60 would be the perfect compromise for you. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There’s a price for everything. Something unique sometimes means unique trade offs when it comes to ownership. I had to replace an HVAC actuator in my cayenne. Took apart the dashboard to replace a part hidden in the wires and hoses. Wasn’t fun. I kept asking myself “why did they do this.. THIS way?” then take corvettes. The trade off with owning one is well.. the depreciation. Worse is everyone confusing you with the same pudgy, grey haired, blue jeans wearing, chip on his shoulder Murica’ baby old guy that drives every vette’. To not be confused with that I Gladly paid the $6 grand plus it cost to replace my clutch 3 years ago. And the pleasure my 360 gives me means I’ll gladly pay a few grand to get the belts replaced next year..
I will just say "Thank you". One of my favorite Corvette moments was the annual big New Car Show with the new Vettes in about 2004 or so. I wanted to see if the quality was still crap, so right in front of everybody salivating and the cheesy rep, I opened the door, and slapped the seat-back. Everybody went quiet when the thing flopped around like a loose ironingboard in a closet.......... except for my little group. We were laughing hysterically. The New & Improved was same ol' same ol'. Enjoy!!!
I dunno you guys are sounding a little butt hurt about American cars. I might wait for a gated manual Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder if one pops up or perhaps the Z06 when it comes out..or the new Lotus Emira coming out next year also manual...but both aren't convertible...prefer convertibles.
Image Unavailable, Please Login LOL, indeed. Sure, go with that. How about sharing a pic of "your Gallardo Spyder"? Kewlest car in the high-school parking lot?
You have doubts? I thought after bitcoins rise to fame these forums would be full of nubes buying up cars ..probably why demand is so high and supply so low right now. Gladly...delivery date Nov.3 as it is getting a new clutch. I was on the Lambo chat forum asking questions...took the 2008 for a test drive and enjoyed the single clutch enough to trade in my c8 (torch Red 2LT Z51) The original plan was 2 corvette C8s but I missed my Lotus Evora almost immediately. So I was considering a newer Hurucan but that's the same problem as the c8's...not as much fun to drive as the Gallardos...so I will prmanuk8kkbly a second, manual Gallardo as mentioned or a ZO6 or new Lotus emira. Bottom line must be manual and convertible preferred.
Ya know dropping the engine out of a TR isn't that bad and you can really do a lot of stuff easier when you do. Putting it back is a bit of a nail biter but still I'd rather work on this on the cradle than in the engine bay. I think for a complicated piece of machinery, its not a bad thing. If you have to replace the belts better get to more problems at the same time. It kinda makes sense to drop the subframe in this car.
LMAO! I don’t think Ferrari ownership is for you. Engine out isn’t that bad. 360 and 430 ball joints will happily offset the difference in belts costs. It’s not the service costs you need to worry about; that’s the easy bit; it’s when something else needs fixing and in that department all Ferraris are “equal”!
That's the biggest thing I wish they'd figured out for the Boxers. Engine out = Disassemble everything behind the rear window/bulkhead, except for the suspension. EVERYTHING. edit: I forgot - the fuel tanks get to stay in place.
Not sure why so many people are responding to someone who is clearly a troll. He isn't adding any value.
Hey, mannnnn.......... Don't harsh his Epic Rich-Dude Troll for the Homecoming slide show. He 's finally got a hott....ish date.
If you want inexpensive maintenance then buy a modern Ferrari. You’re welcome to buy a 458 Italia. No clutch replacement needed and no engine out service for anything. My annual bill for service is $1400/year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You strike me as someone who is likely a teenager and owns none of these cars, nor will anytime soon. These sorts of troll threads should just be locked when they pop up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
