    Those are OEM, I would not use those especially if you plan to push service intervals. Hill ones are a different league.

    I used red Crinkle Powder Coat for valve covers, turns out much better than rattle can and is more durable, they also have back Crinkle for the oil can.

    Everyone may already know this but I thought I’d share anyway. OEM crank angle sensor plugs just crumbled in my hands. Found a place in Victoria that sell the Bosch 3 pin connector relatively cheap. Needed a little tweaking but I was able to retain the original pins so didn’t need to unpick or cut the wire.

    Yep, pretty much everything does that down there, try pulling apart the radiator fan connection, it too crumbles.

    The safest (and smartest) thing to do is to change everything with quality parts right now, and don't play a guessing game with whatever the previous owner has used for parts. That way you are starting clean and you know what parts you will have installed now.

    Yea agree. This engine out service definitely escalated to more than expected and could have done a heap more but just taking baby steps for this round. I ended up adjusting all valve clearances with new shim where needed, new hill tensioner pulley’s, spring and belt. New genuine water pump (mine had a little too much play after further inspection), new cam and valve cover seals and gaskets, strip clean and paint oil tank, timing belt cover repair, new handbrake shoes, injectors serviced and flowed, engine oil filters etc, new nuts bolts etc, zinc plated some bits, vapour blasted some bits and pieces a tonne of cleaning on the engine and bay.

    Really appreciate everyone’s help and comments so far. Nice to know there is a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips.
