Dropping the engine to do a major service on my 1988.5 TR.

    More info:

The car is low milage (8600) and has almost not been driven since 2003 when it received it's last major service.

    Which parts should I get?

    The obvious:
    Oil
    Oil filer
    Air filter
    Fuel filter(s)
    Spark plugs
    Alternator belt
    Fan belt
    Timing belts
    Valve cover gaskets
    Cam seals

    Please supplement....

    Coolant hoses
    Fuel hoses/lines

    Dear Ferraristi,

    First....

Welcome to the board and a big "FREEZE....MIAMI VICE! " out to you... :)

    Second...

    whow...that's a really loaded question.

When was the last time the hoses were changed? I think you should review alot of the "engine out " threads here and take notes.

You'll be surprised how much "while you're in there" adds up....time and cost.

Generic maintenance kits are sold by the sponsor here Ricambi ...but usually you'll need to go far beyond that.

You only need the valve cover gasket kit if you are doing the valve clearances....

Cam belt tensioner bearings from Hill engineering (no others).
2 small oil hose return from head, they always need replacing if you want a clean motor
Brake fluid as you will need to bleed the clutch after re-install
I suggest that you buy some "Dowty" washers (seals) for the oil drains. They are MUCH MUCH better than copper washers, the plug hardly needs to be tight at all to get a good leak free seal.
CV grease for the drive shafts.
You will need a couple of VERY BIG spanners to remove the oil feed / return pipes.
Some fish tank air hose to fit to the end of the throttle cable BEFORE you remove it :D

If I can think of anything else I will post up later.

This is my (work in progress) website of my engine removal last year.

    Hope this helps.

2 thermostats, 2 short sections of fuel line between pumps and tanks. Perhaps o2 sensors (mine were bad). I would also consider suspension bushings after 22 years. Replace the o rings on all injectors. Replace the 2 large dia rubber pipes between the underside of the intake plenum and fuel injection unit. If it did not run well, perhaps the plug extenders. My #11 was bad.
