I thought my fellow V12 enthusiasts might like to see progress on my 365 engine rebuild - so here are a few from the various stages so far. The engine is pretty good condition overall, but historically had a water loss problem dating back to the eighties; the first picture shows no.2 exhaust port prior to stripping, and it is plain to see the heads have been off in the car before - check out the white silicon sealer.
Having completely stripped the engine, I hot pressure tested the heads as it was fairly obvious that this was where the problem originated and it turned out that the fault was a pin hole in the base of the exhaust port itself! I think it's most likely there was a flaw in the casting - maybe a foreign object which had become embedded in the alloy at this point - anyway, it was a straight forward repair which has since been pressure tested ok.
So now I'm at the point of bead blasting and painting all the alloy parts - as you can see from the pics. Next stage is to build up the heads with new valves and guides whilst I'm waiting for the block to be honed - unfortunately my cylinder honing machine is not working at present so I can't do it myself - luckily for me the pistons and liners are in excellent condition!
    Roll on summer!
    Howard.

Thanks for posting these and I'm looking forward to future updates.

Just curious though: how many miles are on the engine and could you post a picture of one of the other cylinder's valves so that we can see the comparison?

The more pics the better. It is greatly appreciated, as it can be a pain to stop progress long engough to pick up the camera, unless you have a helper snapping photos.

The engine had completed approx 45k (miles) from new, but very little since 2000 - mainly because of it's incontinence I think. I should be up front at this point and say that this not the original engine from my car, rather one from a GTC 4 - it's rather complicated but basically my car was bought for it's fully rebuilt engine (not run since 1997) and the remains were condemned for scrap along with the engine from the GTC (when the engine was removed as a replacement for the GTC - I said it was complicated!). Enter me - saviour to the cause, or something. Anyway, that's the tale, and don't ask for the ch.no. of the GTC as I don't know it!
I am attaching pics of the complete head for you John, and one showing the corrosion on the head studs which we all know about - sorry for the poor pic, I had the phone on the wrong settings...
