    I'm looking at a 328 that has 6,000 on a rebuilt engine (rebuilt at 21,000 miles). Should I be concerned that the auto might have other latent mechanical issues? Does the fact it has a rebuilt motor affect my future resale negatively? Thanks.

    ... I'd ask a lot of questions, because 21,000 miles is extremely early for a blown engine. I'd want to know why the engine failed, who did the rebuild, what was 'rebuilt', etc. Hard to say. At 21,000 miles, I would suspect neglect and not a manufacturing defect.

    If a good, known Ferrari mechanic has gone through it, it might be a nice car.

    The chromed wheels and redline tires looked a little odd, not the stuff Ferrari people would usually put on. Bad karma, not really evidence.

    I like black 328's - just be sure to get a PPI. This car's had an iffy history, though. Ferrari of Denver has a decent black one, similar price, same mileage, just serviced there. I'd call on that one first, if I were you. It's California car as well.

    What is a PPI, and is it something particular to black cars?? Thanks

    PPI=Pre-purchase Inspection

    Should include a compression and leakdown test; usually costs $350.

    The rebuild would detract from the value only if done by other than an FNA dealer or respected independant Ferrari shop. The wheels and tires definitely detract somewhat. The reality is that originality counts during resale. If the rebuild checks out, the car is probably worth high thirties to $40k tops. If tires and wheels where the original ones (rather than the "blingy" chrome and red stripe), then low $40's. Just my opinion.

    Beautiful car but IMO, those wheels are too over the top. And red line tires!!?? What is this a Camaro?

    I looked at one bad picture of the motor. It was not done by a Ferrari guy. Run fast and far. At this point I really don't care what the story was for needing a motor rebuild, it was done by the low bidder or maybe a high school auto shop.

    I agree with Rifledriver- the engine photo is a little scary. Quick observations-the zip ties for the plug wires, incorrect breather line material for the crossover between the valve covers, missing a hose clamp, etc.

    Who did the engine rebuild? Any documentation? If a lack of pride in your work is so obvious from a picture, what happened on the inside engine areas you can't see? These can be expensive questions to answer.

    I am not a mechanic and these are just my opinions- FWIW.

    Good luck-
    John
