Is it possible to remove the engine out the top and not from the bottom. I was just about to start doing my engine out over these next few cool months here in Canada and was wondering if anyone has pulled the engine out the top. I have a four post lift and was trying to avoid hanging my car out the front of my garage if I didn't have to.

The other thing I was thinking was building a couple of steel L-posts that I could slide in on the sides then lower my hoist leaving the car up and lowering the engine down with the hoist.

Tim and Wade are the ultra experts. The thing to grasp is that the engine and tranny is mounted in a frame which can only be removed below the car. When you open the lid and look down at the engine you may think that there is room for it to be lifted - illusion, the whole issue must be removed from below in its frame...........

It would be a complete pain in the a:censored:e to try to take the engine out from the top.

The engine subframe will not clear the engine bay opening so you would have to leave the subframe in the car and lift the engine off the frame - However, the gearbox will not clear the rear chassis members on the frame so you would have to separate the gearbox from the engine, etc., etc., etc.

Trying to take the engine out from the top is a bit like trying to reinvent the wheel - You're just making a comparatively simple task a thousand times harder for yourself!

Considering that you're taking the entire drive-train out of car, to be fair to Ferrari, they did make it as relatively simply as anyone possibly could!

Yes, you could, no you should not, unless you're a masochist.
