I have read the threads on removal using 2 floor jacks lifting from the rear as well as 2 post, same process just the lift differs. For those that have done it, using tall jack stands or otherwise having the car level, how high would the car need to be to clear the motor when dropping it?

I am doing some math with mid-rise scissor lift and ATV lift for engine.
Lift goes 36 inches and ATV lift collapses to 5 inches.
So figure 30 inches is the clearance number with this set up. Enough to clear?

    Thanks.

yes someone in the 348 section perfected or invented what is called the two jack method or something to that affect. Not sure how you would find the thread or details of the process but overall the answer is yes it has been done and used on 348's

Right I am familiar with the 2 jack method. It jacks raises the rear only. I am referring to raising the whole car with jack stands or scissor lifts. 30 inches or so.

If one was to raise the car with jack stands or scissor lifts, how high would it need to be?

30 inch is plenty, especially if you remove the bumper.

I admire his tenacity but I am not doing it without a lift....

Cauf61... yeeeesss that seems much better. Can you pm me the lift you used that one looks better than quick jack which is no thigh enough and also more stable than a scissor lift.

You know, I don't know if using the pallet jack is better...

That's the one i bought. It was a bit less expensive but you do need a dual scissor to get in between the 2 raising parts.
Alway's work safe and don't trust only on the hydraulics. Never get under when the scissor is not locked mechanically !!!!!
Also because the 348 has to be positioned waaaaaay back (even over the far end of the scissor plates), be very careful of the weight balance. My 348 was just out of balance with the rear wheels attached. Some people put big water cans in the front trunk. We used some wood to be secure. :)

The motor lift you show is much better then a pallet jack because of greater lift height.
It is easier we found out to lift the engine in the car then lowering the car on the engine as we did.
Remember the complete engine combination weights a lot ! I think around 300kg . !!

After all it was an easy job to get the engine out. We worked with 2 people and very carfuly and slow ( first time) 6 hrs to get it out.

As you can see on one off the pictures ( no 3 ) we had to temporarily remove the drive up plates from the lift to get good access to the 12 frame bolts.
The wooden block it just on the back end off the support.
That's how far back the car has to be positioned. !!
    BE SAFE !!!

Somebody told me the scissor would be more stable if i had turned it 180° So the engine above the fixed hinge side of the lift. He could be right. May somebody can verify.

Nice to have a garage that size to work in. A standard US 2 car garage is way too tight. I'm doing a belt change now on my 612 (engine stays in) while my 355 is also in the garage and barley room to move about. Not sure how I'm going to tackle the engine out in the 355 next year. I'll probably have to park the 612 somewhere else during the work.
