I am in need of engine repair information for an F430 that appears to have reversioned material from the catalyst. This information does not appear in any of the print or PDFs that I have been able to obtain. I have called and left a message and emailed Ferrari Techinfo without response. I am happy to use Techinfo, but want to confirm that the information is there before I spend the money. Does anyone know where I can locate the information? I would prefer a source where I can physically obtain a manual or download.

I do not know if there is an official Ferrari position on this. I do not think the factory will admit this can happen. Reversion is a theory who's evidence is cat break off material found in the intake. This was a big 355 issue and the issue started there. It has to do with valve overlap as during this time intake and exhaust valves are open. Mixture control issues made for high heat which burnt out oem headers and ate cats and the results were destroyed headers, reversion particles, destroyed valve guides. The factory answer was steel guides and new factory headers while the aftermarket went for more robust headers. It was only a few techs who beat the drum for mixture control as the core of the answer while others were perfectly happy to band aid symptoms. I think Ferrari just assumes mixture control but has a hard time achieving that just like they still can't make an interior that does not get sticky. There are pages of arguments on the reversion headers issue.

So if you are seeing reversion I'd be looking at proper mixture control and proper Ferrari method cam timing as well as hard part integrity like the headers. white wisps of hairs around the engine bay were a give away of failed headers under pristine Ferrari thermal wrap of the headers.

If the engine has ingested bits of the pre cat, then the fix is to pull the head and see what need fixing. From my experience valve overlap is there to help the exhaust valve cooling, the only cooling for the valve being the time it touches the seat and the cool air coming into the cylinder. By having a high degree of overlap you are getting a higher amount of cool air over the exhaust valve to cool it.
On modern diesels, the turbo produces far more air than is needed for combustion- the excess is used during the overlap period to decrease the exhaust temps. We find that if the turbo performance drops off, then the exhaust temp comes up and you end up having to reduce the power output to keep the temps down.

We are very certain that the material is from the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter. Our problem has been finding repair procedures and specifications. techinfo.ferrari has informed me that the information is available through a subscription. We are planning to try this later this week. I will update once we see what information is available.

I have them. I'd like to tell it right here on the board so that everybody knows. Please ask what you need. I'll post it.

We need a substantial amount. Work procedure to remove and install cylinder heads, camshaft timing procedures, work procedure to remove and install oil sump/crankshaft cradle and pistons and all of the associated torque specifications and sequences for all of those operations.

Used techinfo.ferrari.com and all of the information is on the site. If you try to email for information with any questions the email link address has .com twice by mistake. You will need to remove one. Not cheap, $275 per day, but complete.
