Last night I got everything buttoned up and started my engine.

    Replace timing belts - check
    Replace fuel hoses - check
    Replace coolant hoses - check
    Change fluids - check
    Replace spark plugs - check
    New battery - check

After 20 years in storage, it fired right up. Now that it's running, I can focus on, well, everything else. Brakes, sorting out the electrical, putting the interior back together...

I feel much better knowing the motor runs. I still need to fiddle with the carbs, but I figure I can do that after the car is back on the ground.

Thanks F-Chatters for all your valuable information! The wealth of collective information here has been amazing.

It is nice, eh? :) Firing up and running makes it worth it.

My electrical stuff slowly all started to work again over several days, as the switches were operated and the oxide wore off the contacts.

Still need to clean out all the light bulb sockets and rebuild the power window motor mechanisms, replace some weather strips and the suspension bushings. ball joints and tie rod ends.

Taken apart by a shop for painting around 1991. Never made it all the way back together. While that was happening/not happening the Middle Eastern brothers who owned the car moved back to Saudi Arabia and they bequeathed it to the shop owner around 1995.

I found out about the car around 10 years ago and tried again and again to make her mine. In June, 2009 my wishes came true...careful what you wish for as they say! I froze once I actually had the car and the op came along and snatched her up. A very happy ending :)

Happy indeed. It's been hard to find the time to work on the car, but it's slowly progressing. I look forward to the day when I drop it back on the ground and can take her for a spin around the block!

And no Kie, you can't have her back:)
