: Ferrari maintains the confusion: the engines of Pista and F8 are different in particular the exhaust !

"To fulfil new emissions and noise regulations, we needed to change the exhaust. That meant changing various engine parts and revalidating the engine, driveability and sound. The only visible changed parts are the new aluminium intake manifold and exhaust" (TOFM)

Ferrari said they worked for 6 months to find a way to improve and amplify the sound (in a mechanical way) and that it sounds better than the 488. But I think there won't be a huge difference between them.

I suppose that's all they can say....certainly not going to say "hey, we tried, but with the new emission requirements we had to accept inferior sound." We can justify this any way we want to reach some level of acceptance in purchasing these newer models, but it's sad when Ferrari has to "manufacture" sound to keep our interest......we may eventually get to an exterior speaker system that plays back the sound of a Speciale with straight pipes that we can control from our entertainment systems......assuming we can figure out how to turn them on.....

Speciale sounded like **** compared to the CS.. So go buy a CS ....

I think all of this obsessing about sound is a bit silly personally.

I don't think there's an obsession about sound (not for me anyway). Sound to me just adds to the overall driving experience, and I drive a lot. For those that only drive to C&C events, and maybe to dinner on occasion, I can certainly understand why they might not care at all about the sound.....and might even find these discussions to be silly.

There’s something wrong with that F12 engine, it has the devil inside! Children should look away and a priest be called.

Don't think I will ever understand these pose fests. Far better enjoyment in taking the car out for a proper drive rather than waste time with all this pea-cocking crap. Usually someone ends up spinning it into a crowd or hits something in the process of showing off. Kind of pathetic really.

Yes, I've never been at one outside of the Ferrari dealership events and those had no foolishness. The videos provided the sound discussion between two nearly identical turbo engines but the reference video added the element of a real Ferrari engine sound lest we forget.

Outside of the Pista, the F8 is the most attractive regular production Ferrari in the last 40 years. While I enjoy a great engine note, so long as it sounds good, driving dynamics take much greater precedence in the hierarchy of a super car's traits.

Nice of course, a bit of donut burnout craziness, just the same, nice to hear the engine.

In an unexpected way, it is as if the GPF and its ability to take the edge off the exhaust note are preparing us for the complete lack of engine sounds (i.e. full electric).

For those who indicate that sound doesn't matter, go watch some Formula E videos and see if that still have that same thought...

there is a great youtube video about formula E car and previous generation F1 car trying to impress a crowd..pretty damn telling stuff...
The future is not always better.....

If you say, "sound doesn't matter;" I say, "you are a liar (or deaf)."

Completely agree re the Speciale and I have had both, still have the Speciale. Neither it nor the Italia are from the top drawer where sound is concerned. Great cars though! Sound in and of itself is only important in the context of the rest of the car and if that ain’t right, sound doesn’t sort it out. Great car and great sound, well we all love that, but it is subjective. I enjoyed the 488 sound much more than expected but the Speciale, though an unbelievably brilliant car ranks sound amongst its weaker points IMV.
