Car is driving great. Hauling down the road. Hitting high revs. Then the engine note changes. Car won’t rev over 5000rpm. Engine sounds lame. Maybe it lost a whole bank of cylinders? I pull over. Car dies. Both check engine lights are illuminated as well as the battery light.

Car starts right back up. Drives fine.

    Any thoughts?

I’ve been doing some searching and haven’t been able to determine if limp mode is a thing on the 348.

Yep usually get sdl lights and car runs poorly and won't rev. It's not called limp mode I'm calling it that.

Ok cool. Thanks Eric. So I need to pull the codes from the ECUs to see what’s going on?

...as all 348s do when they die. Were there any lights before the engine died completely? Is it a 2.5 or 2.7?

    Here was one solution

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/139178423/

But it could be anything at this point. Heat and vibration affect lots of things. Fuel, ignition, etc..

That’s the thing: no lights whatsoever before it acted weird. It’s an NA Spider so it’s a 2.7… right?

That's what Wiki say, but I'm no expert.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_348

Is the cutoff point the same as the name change from TB/TS to GTB/GTS/Spider?

Does it have removable seat cushions :p

Ahh ya ok that sucks. Could be anything as mentioned.
Crank sensors are easy to check and rule out.
Any work done on it recently?

I think one bank is shutting down for some reason and then coming back online after a restart. That’s what it feels like.

Is there any reason you changed the fuel pumps?

I requested both be replaced “while you’re in there”

Reading the description of the problem it sounds like it might be what’s happening still.

    Maybe it’s the FPR?

From what I've read on the forum, if there are no lights or messages, fuel supply/regulation is one possible cause. I think I would check for messages first, though.

Is it hard to check for fuel leaking into the FPR vacuum line on this car?

Sounds like a fuel pump relay or injector relay for one of the banks.
I had something similar happen to my 348TB (1993). I replaced both fuel pump relays, and both the injector relays and its never happened since.

Kevin has a point, I replaced ever relay and fuse in the footwell, most are the old steel ones that are not sealed, it solves a lot of issues on these cars. Especially intermittent ones. I have a whole post on that. I'd start with those first few related to fuel and then possibly inspect replace the FPR (but honestly they re so cheap and easy to do it costs more to have them checked), if it still happens look at spark issues.

When one of my pumps, a few minutes after cold start, started slowly dropping fuel pressure, I had the CEL for that bank coming on when the pressure dropped to about 25-30 psi (I could monitor the fuel pressures on the gauges I installed). So it seems that low fuel pressure should trigger CEL, indirectly through the signal from the O2 sensor as there are no fuel pressure sensors on the 348.

Ha, ha. I'd probably of had it fixed by now.

    And, I shift at 6k, not 5. So.... ;)

I asked a couple of time. Always got bad advice. :(

Got to learn somewhere. But he does not work on it himself he has a shop do it, I think he's just trying to get a sense of direction here.
