I'm going to have a soil bearing capacity study done on my property where I'm having an addition to the house built and a detached garage.

I've got bids from several geotech firms regarding the testing. Some use cone penetrometer technology (CPT) and other use split spoon sampling. I basically understand the difference.

Which one is better. Any engineers out there that might give me an unbiased opinion? Each company explains to me why the way they do it is best and I'm not really sure who to believe.
