    Nic,

Do a search and find New York City visit 2010 here in Ferrarichat. There is a wealth of information. If you have to come during the winter, the time around Christmas is special. There is much to do in NY always and at Christmas there is a lot more.
Hotels are varied. I'd search the net for reviews, but I would only stay below 96th Street in Manhattan. Brooklyn has some great neighborhoods to visit. There's not much the Bronx or Queens can offer in the winter.
The Knicks (basketball) and Rangers (hockey) play in the Garden in the winter. A few weeks before you come visit the website Stubhub.com to buy tickets. Prices vary by who they are playing, but you can get in the door from $25-$75 and get a good seat for $150.
Three weeks will give you enough time to see everything you'll want to see and perhaps the chance to rent a car and take a long weekend at a romantic inn in Vermont. Vermont is a beautiful State about 4 hours drive from NYC. They have world class food, good skiing and snowmobiling. There is a lot on the web on Vermont tourism. Before deciding, look at a map. The 4 hour drive is to southern Vermont, but Vermont extends to the Canadian boarder, so northern villages can be twice the drive. I'd suggest you stay around Bennington, Brattleboro or Manchester. There is a monument in Bennington at the battleground where the green mountain boys, led by G. Washington kicked a little Brittish butt.
Alternatives for a few days away are Boston and Washington DC. You can get the Amtrack Acella express "high speed" train and be in any of these cities in 3 hours. They leave from Penn Station which is right below Madison Square Garden. The ride is comfortable.
    Good luck!
    John

    Hi john,

Thank you for all the info there, i will have a search for that 2010 trip too,

it is probably going to be around this time next year as i have spent the last 2 weeks sat on my backside because of the weather over here it has made it impossible to work so it seems like a perfect excuse to go on holiday around these dates :D

you can tell that America is much much bigger than than the uk by the way you say places are only 3-4 hours away so you could go visit them,

i live pretty far up north in england and london is only 3 hours away, that would be a weekend trip for us brits lol

    thanks again
    Nic

Fortnight would be better for NYC. Unless you plan to visit D.C. or Boston .all borough have their good and bad parts but most things you want to see are in decent areas.

Midtown is prime location to stay. Many things are near like Broadway, the Met and good restaurants. You can use our "Tube" to access most location you wish to go.
