Ladies & gentlemen, the gate is open to enter the prestigious Mille Miglia for 2011. Once again, under the Ferrari tribute which is open to post MM mnufactured cars.

Please see here for more information.

    http://ferraritribute.1000miglia.eu/en/partecipare.html

    http://ferraritribute.1000miglia.eu/en/disposizioni_generali.html

I'm going to enter my '96 456GT which is acceptable but need to wait for approval from the committee as only 130cars are accepted to participate. We're to start @ about one hour before the official event which is about 1800hr & the rally follows through the entire Mille Miglia for 2D & 2N.

Would be great to meet fellow Asian owners there if we're lucky to be accepted :)

Hope you get accepted. Good Luck!
I am hoping to do the main MM event although I will probably have to make do with a pre-war Aston Martin rather than a Ferrari.!!

    Hey Lung, bring your 458!

Thanks mate. I was looking @ a 1.5litre AM few months ago which was supposed to be eligible but think I'd like a little comfort as the weather isn't kind to us on those open tourers!

Hope to see you there :)

I just received the promo brochure for the Tribute from IMSS and I am now tied. Do I send the entry cheque to cover off the possibility that I dont get that seat in the real MM...or not?
I am thinking the cost and hassle of shipping the SA to Italy for a few days is a bit of a put off.
I do want to do the event though at some point in my life!

Hi Paul, you could do a tour of EU after the event which I'll be doing since MM is just 3-4 days max. You & the car is best to be there 48hrs before the event and book the hotels well in advance, I had to spend a night in my car for Bologna as the town was full while Rome wasn't kind either!

I believe they'll inform us if we're selected for the Tribute then send the cheque or a late refund. Trust me, the Italians are very poor in communication on this, best if you speak their language.

As for insurance, I've not asked but we could look into UK etc that offers it for short term.

Some guys have a team or two of mechanics that follows them throughout to ensure that they finish the MM & you need to register them as well. There are some who take the competition quite seriously :)

70 cars did not complete this year!

    Thanks Jon
Good advice. I think I will leave the tribute thing for this year and take my chances on getting a seat in the MM (still a long shot). It is a big wedding anniversary year for us and we have already booked up on a couple of longish holidays......none with the car!
Its a good idea to take the car for a longer Euro drive including the MM Tribute so maybe I will do a bit more planning and make an earlier start on booking etc next time around (assuming Ferrari do it again, which I bet they do since over subscribed)

Alright folks, so I got lucky & my 456GT was selected for this year's Mille Miglia :)

After a very very arduous week of handling the Malaysian side's admin to get the car out of the country, the car is finally in the container! ETA, 5 May 2001 in port Genoa :D

Now, getting into the rally was't easy but getting the paperwork for sending the car over is a HUGE nightmare.....but it's finally done.

I'll update the rally on this thread & I'll be taking the car for a tour of Europe after that, heading towards Monaco first then maybe St Tropez etc. But before that, I'd want to visit Pagani which I missed last time & maybe pay a visit to Lambo factory again :)

16years after leaving the factory gates, my 456GT will be driving through it again :p

I am sure its all worth it you lucky B*****

Have a great time. Wish I was going. Having just got my 575SA back from the shop and its annual service today it is in perfect condition for such an event. Alas not this time!

Last October I did the Ferrari Factory Tour AND the Ducati Factory in Bologna (west side of town at end of the SS9 from Modena or near the A14/E45 junction and Airport) . I must say I am not a big bike fan and went to humour the friend who I was travelling with, but the Ducati Museum and the MotoGP "Temple" there was facinating. It was also interesting to see the hand made approach of the Ducati factory versus the massive robot automation of Ferrari, yet both are just as proud of their production for different reasons. You should take look if you are so close anyway. I also learnt all about the Ducati invented/patented Desmodronico valve system!!!!

Whatever you do, Enjoy! I would love to do San Cesario and Sant'Agata on some future occasion. I'll be driving from Milan to Venice in August but I guess that route is a bit farther north and a bit out of the way for Motor Valley.

Hey Paul, I was advertising for a co-driver! Well, a local buddy took it up.

Oh yes, would love to visit Ducati as well. Bike was my hobby, especially classics from the 60-70s. Maybe I should visit Maserati as well. I'm thinking if I should even drive to Stuttgart to check out Porsche museum & even to the Schumpf museum as well.

Please post some pics of your 575SA! I'm thinking if I should buy a F550 over here as it's getting cheap but too similar to the 456.

Well, you could always make a detour to the Bologna area ;)

Let me know next time. Always up for it!!

The Ducati Museum has a lot of old 60' and 70's bikes including those of Mike Hailwood.

Here is a link to some pics of my car. All credit to RWP for the one catching me driving in Causeway Bay (and using Photoshop to give the Stig a chance to drive!)

Also some snaps from my Monza, Maranello, Bologna trip last year.

If you're driving to Stuttgart, let me know and I'll tell you some more nice car places. Some examples are the Meilenwerk in Böblingen, the Auto Salon in Singen of Bob Forstners Lambo museum (he told me his collection was the biggest one in Europa after the Lambo museum in Italy). some pics can be seen here:

On the photos - you are right!
    Any volunteers
I have lots of Photos of 575SAs from the web though.

On the windnoise - dunno! Never drive with top closed!!!!
Never take it out in the rain either (clearly!)
Seriously though, on the once or twice I have had the top closed (and I mean only once or twice !) I have not noticed any real noise from any leaking windnoise over the general cabin noise...but then again, ..at HK speeds?

    Bonjourno!

Logging in now from Genova! After almost a month, my 456GT finally arrived safely & thank goodness, not much drama @ the port here. Phew!

Again, I have to be @ the port to personally inspect & drive the car out of the container. Luckily I'm still slim :) so I can still squeeze through the window into the car.

The weather in fantastic, just 22 D'Celcius in day & sunny so flowers are blooming everywhere & may I pray that no rain over the next two weeks please! Unlike last year, it was pouring for several days before the event.

Strangely, I saw the PSA (Port of Singapore Authority) sign everywhere & then saw a metal plaque in the customs office which said that a certain Yeo Ning Hong was here to officiate the opening etc etc. Now, I suddenly felt very much @ home cos Dr Yeo was the chairman of PSA.

Oh well, almost couldn't get the car out in time (even though the port is a member of PSA :D). Cos the insurance papers & logcard I had were photocopied & they weren't impressed, then a RHD in a LHD country! Finally, they had other ideas that the chassis nos could be somewhere else.... oh boy. It was beginning to sound like Malaysia Customs Red Tape part II.

Anyway, after some hours. The car is finally cleared & once again, this Ferrari 456GT has finally come home to Italy after 16 long years leaving the gates of Maranello :)

Mille Miglia begins on the evening of 12th in Brescia but we need to get it inspected & have all the stickers on it. I have a 1.5hours trip there tomorrow!

Hello boys, I'm writing in the lobby from my hotel in Brescia now. We've finally completed the event & all worked out well. Very very pleased that my 456 performed perfectly throughout the 1500+ KM of punishing roads. There were few scary moments & near misses but all went well.

It is an unforgettable event with many orgasmic moments like driving through Rome in a convoy led by police escort in peak evening hour, they basically stopped the entire city just for us to tour through it, passing all the important areas with tens of thousands cheering us & of course some were more than annoyed :D

Then there were the snow capped mountains, legendary Tuscany landscape where we simply drove on the hill ridges with scenes of endless hilly vineyards, fields of yellow flowers blooming in full glory & wheat fields waving like ocean waves. The demanding hill climbs with twisties every 50metres & roads so tight that a second of mistake that'll see us drop few thousand feet down. Oops....not a very inviting thought but when you see the faces on the jubilant village kids & even old folks turned out on wheelchairs to wave us on, you'll have a smile on your face like a clown! We would reply with horns & waves or simply drop a gear to their applause ;)

My buddy is hooked on sending his Stradale next year while our dear friend is already planning on the Sicily Ferrari event in September!

You guys should just drop everything & send your car in. Buy a Ferrari in UK, truck it over then drive the sh*t out of it! The 6600 euro fee is too cheap!

I have over 1500 pics but will obviously take time to post them. Not as many as I wished as I was driving most of the time & chasing down or occassionally overtaking F40s, F50, 599 GTOs & even 250GT, Lusso & the usual other Ferraris. Imagine all the fun ;)
