How much Freeze-12 or Envirosafe coolant is the equivalent of 2.86 lbs of R-12 to fill my AC system (1994 512TR). I have both available. Do I just fill to 2.86 lbs or is there a conversion ratio? Thanks.
I haven’t used Freeze 12 in forever. Their website is gone along with the conversion table as they don’t sell it anymore. I know you used slightly less than your system called for but can’t remember how much. IIRC, it also isn’t really a drop in replacement. You have to evacuate your old refrigerant and replace solely with Freeze 12. I would also double check if it requires mineral oil or an R-134 compatible oil. Have you considered going online and getting your 609 certification so you can buy R-12? They have sites that administer the test for free. That’s what I ultimately did so I could buy R-12 for my older cars. Best of luck.
I would just have someone with the equipment and certification change it for you and use R-12. You would still have to get rid of the Freon otherwise and dumping it into the atmosphere is not a good idea.
I have a 20 lb tank of Freeze-12 that I've used on this car since 2005 with good success. The system needs ester oil, same as Freon. I also have a case Enviro-cool and Red-tec (I'm guessing at the names), both R-12 substitutes. I think you use 10-15% less by weight compared to R-12. This car calls for 2.86 lbs of refrigerant (R-12), so 10-15% less would be about 2.5 lb.
