Ran across this documentary and was moved.

Not a ocean person myself, but I do enjoy nature shows. Australia has such immense and diverse beauty and its a shame the shark culls are going on, and killing so many other marine animals.

The end of the documentary has news footage and a plea to spread the word.

The interesting thing is whenever there’s someone killed by a shark (and it just happens there have been more than usual in the past couple of years) there’s an uproar by folk about ‘better protection’ BUT the irony is most of those people never set foot in the water anyway! Those of us who DO swim in the ocean are happy to take our chances (which are minimal anyway). It’s also a bit extreme to refer to ‘culls’ as well; the only direct action is the nets off the beach (and their worst impact is on smaller wildlife like turtles). Very rarely, after a death, the may shoot the ‘suspect’ shark to try and recover reamains.
Worldwide, the biggest threat to sharks is still fin fishers.

 

In 2021 in Australia you are 6 times more likely to die from an Astra Zeneca CoVID vaccination than a shark attack. (note: I'm just trolling Greg)

However, shark attacks are big media events, an orgy of sensation and fake compassion for the victim, whilst the media clicks roll in. Each time comes the call, "what is the government doing about it", because we all know that government is the solution to all problems. So the hapless/hopeless minister for sport & recreation needs to be seen to do something visible, and what could be more visible that nets and drum lines?

never had an issue although I've had a few frights , cleaning the hull of the boat in St Kilda marina , swimming of Peel island QLD .

Have you looked at how it is made?

I hope the doco includes the topic of fishing for shark fin, where the fins are removed and the helpless but alive animal thrown back.

 

When I’m swimming in shark infested waters I always take some Ivermectin pills before I jump in
