a wealthy friend of mine recently ask me to help him find an enzo...he is not a big ferrari guy like most of us, but said he wanted to buy the car as an investment...he did not intend on driving the car, but keeping it in a temp controlled garage...i told him it may not be the best investment at current prices, unless we find one way below market price , which is unlikely...if i had a million to spend on cars, i would get a f50 for 600k, and buy a used carrera gt for 350k..you would have your collector car and an everyday supercar also!!!your thoughts and expert opinions???

I think the Enzo over time will be highly collectible. Probably not in his lifetime though. Is he planning on willing it as part of his estate? Maybe he should put it in an LLC and shelter it. If he's nearby he should probably allow me to check it out for him. ;)

It's a shame he doesn't intend to enjoy it.

    Your asking the wrong guy......

Seriously, he could probably find one for a "fair" deal. I doubt you will find one below market and he would prob. get what he paid for. He wants one with a very detailed history if this is to be an investment. He should also realize the car will need to be driven a bit to keep it in top condition. That is no joke......

    I'd be happy to help.

    No, its not.

Hell, even with my pint sized brain I've managed to put together a stock portfolio that is up 14.3% YTD. The Enzo has depreciated from around $1.2MM to $900k since then...

the car diffinitely need to driven occassionally....you maybe right, it can be a good investement, but over many, many years.....an enzo LLC, i like it....he lives in SF, and made silly money in the tech. boom...he was lucky and cashed out earily enough...i hope he does try to buy one so i can be the offical test driver and i can go around the country and "check out" the various enzos for him....just to make sure the car meets my high standards....somehow i dont think this will happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, I hope he doesn't get an Enzo or any Ferrari just to store it. The point of having these things is to DRIVE them.

I have a good friend in the same situation. Though he did the car thing and was bored and sold them off. It would be a shame to see this car sit and not be viewed.

He might consider forming an LLC for the purchase then donating it for viewing at the local dealership. They may make it worth his while to do so. That way it will be seen by enthusiast, cared for, and he can take it when he wants. Just thinking out of the box.

Glad to help him if needed - Good Luck.

I don't know why anyone of these cars are considered investments. The appreciation potential is there, but not quite. I mean, the car is already at $1m. How much more can it go up? There are 30 or so (forget the number) GTOs out there with a racing pedigree. THAT I can see you ask $10+ for it. But these cars are basic technology monsters and the next generation eats up the last one's cache. As a store of money, it aint that bad. I mean, you get to have it, enjoy it, maybe drive it a few times a year. But you store that thing, and you take it out of shelter/storage and you better be taking out your checkbook with the first key twist. Everything on that car is expensive, and I mean EVERYTHING. Oil is $60 a quart? geeeze. The F-50 has been a great investment. I mean, um came out 10 years ago. $650k, and today, is worth ummm $650. The bank at 2% interest/year has been a better store of money than these cars. I firmly believe that the profit potential is already priced into these things
