I wanted to post this on the "super Ferraris" section but since it's dominated by (mostly teenage) Americans I think I'll get some more interesting responses by my European friends (especially the Germans!).

As you all know companies like Porsche make a big boast about their cars' lap times at the Nürburgring, with the Carrera GT achieving 7'30'' and the various tuned Gemballa/TechArt/... 911 Turbos not so far behind... and manufacturers like BMW and Lamborghini are also not shy about putting their cars to the test at the 'Ring. In fact most of them are now developed there for their chassis dynamics!

But Ferrari? We know that for internal "policy" reasons they'd never, ever submit an Enzo to an official 'Ring test, but I'd really like to know how it goes in the world's hardest circuit. Is anyone aware of any Enzo having lapped the 'Ring driven by a pro, and what is the best lap time?

    Hello Andrea,

good question and already has been discussed in the "inner circle".
Ferrari factory - we know don`t! Only Fiorano and only with heir own drivers!.

I asked some ENZO owners rom the "Enzo Club" during the Modena Track Days/Nürburg Ring this year.
Its not that they are wimps, can`t drive or handle their cars...or whatever bad mouth talking is. No, some of them are prof. licence drivers and they track their Enzos on REAL RACE tracks!
    Thats the point!!!
They don`t drive the Nordschleife for a good reason!
The "Ring" Nordschleife is NOT a secure race track like Hockenheim, Monza...a.s.o.!!!
The Nordschleife is more a closed country road without "Auslaufzone, Kiesbett, Fangzäune, Reifenstapel.....etc."!
Do you would drive on a smal, curvey county road +300 km/h?????

    Best
    Wolfgang

P.S. some "so called" prof. motorsport reporters asked them to let the test drivers o the print magazines drive their Enzos over the Nordschleife.
    - no insurance!
    - how many cars did they already smashed during their test drives?

Thanks Wolfgang for the info - I didn't know magazines refuse to take responsibility in case of accidents during test drives with customer cars! That's crazy!

What about Horst Von Saurma of Sport Auto magazine - these guys seem to be extremely professional and have the largest official database of 'Ring lap times - it's Von Saurma who tested the Carrera GT and lots of other cars on this crazy circuit, including the Challenge Stradale which did it in an excellent 7'56''. Surely if there's anyone qualified to test the Enzo at the 'Ring it must be Von Saurma. Do you agree?

    All the best
    Andrea

    Andrea,
I agree with you and Horst von Sauma is indeed one of the best and most experienced drivers.
But.....would you let somebody drive your Ferrari?

If I earned in excess of 10 million Euros per year and a Ferrari was just a cheap hobby for me, yeah I wouldn't mind letting a professional having a go with it. If he crashes it, I could always replace it.

Actually if you think about it art collectors take far greater risks - all these Van Goghs, Picassos, Matisses, Kandinskys etc. that regularly travel all over the world from private collections to be displayed in art exhibitions for the benefit of everyone... now if something goes wrong during transport, if a painting is destroyed, stolen or damaged - these are REALLY unique, irreplaceable works of art yet their owners are generous enough to let everyone admire them. In this perspective even an Enzo is a mass-produced object!
