LOL! Interesting. So why doesn't Ferrari still have parts for the Enzo engine? Just saw the P45C video by the way; awesome.
They do. Racambi who is a sponsor can get them. I'd start with them. There are also other internal engine parts easily available that as other's have pointed out may be better.
Having done more rebuilds than I ever wanted to do, I can attest that Ferrari often re-uses parts from older models. And, since the 599 motor is similar to the Enzo motor, I suspect motor parts will be available for quite a while. I haven't checked to see if the rods, pistons, crank and valves are the same part numbers, but they might well be. But they won't be inexpensive. That NEVER seems to change! CW
Sorry to hear of this. I must say you have the best spirit when faced with these types of situations. Best wishes with the repairs.
Actually, it's in. It just got no engine. We've been pulling it up and down the street for kid rides. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for sharing pictures Bill. I remember easly the CS burned during the tragique fire in Califirnia, and now the Enzo engine. No doubt! you re very patient with your Fcars, many people put hands down but you ve a strong passion.
Luckily the Enzo engine is repairable. I don't think I could have fixed that CS engine. That's it on the bottom with my buddy checking it out. So you can see a burned Enzo cylinder is not so bad. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bill- Good luck on the rebuild. Manley will make better SS valves for the car for a much lower price than OEM valves. Taz Terry Phillips
How did your CS burn Bill??? That a Lambo there also?? Did a transport truck catch fire or something??
Unfortunately not that simple! Most of our neighborhood was gone in the October 2007 Southern CA wildfire (100 mph+ winds), including one CS, a GT3 RS and Viper RT/10.
Things are going well. The rebuild should be completed in a few weeks. We replaced: - Cylinder head with new valves and springs - All 12 cylinder sleeves - All 12 piston - Lifters - Crank bearings The cams, crank and connecting rods look good. We did an ultrasonic clean of all parts including the block, oil pan and oil pump. I'll have more detail after my next visit.
Glad to hear it's coming along. It's the wait on the parts that always slowed us down... Contrary to what some may want us to believe, a Ferrari engine is just an engine, after all. It sucks, it squeezes, it explodes and it blows. Easy enough to work on when something fouls up. It just sounds better in Italian. CW
I concur. Very similar failures with modern motocross bikes. The welded portion of the valve breaks and cause the same kind damage. In one larger case involving thousands of motorcycles, the manufacture had got a "bad batch" of valves from their supplier. A later post mentioned Bill is replacing many parts, except the con rods. Be careful that one rod is not bent ever so slightly. Once rod and piston is installed while the head is still off check the piston to cylinder wall clearance on all sides to make sure it is consistent. So many repaired bikes ended up failing, because rod was bent a couple thousandths and went undetected. The engine still turned over and ran well{for a while}.
