    Gentlemen,

I found this article in an italian car magazine (Auto Sprint). It seems to me that readers
could cut out a part, fill it out and send it somewhere to vote for Enze Ferrari...
Did he finally became senator? I presume it is only a honorific title?
Can anyone shed some light on this?

    cheers

    Yves

P.S.: sorry for the bad quality of the image!

or is it an ad showing Enzo Ferrari support of Sandro Pertini perhaps? :)

I think "per" can be translated as "for"

Every President of the Italian Republic has the right to appoint up to five "senators for life", chosen for their outstanding merits in literary, artistic, scientific or social fields. All past Presidents also automatically become senators for life at the end of their presidency.

Those are not just honorific titles: senators for life have the same rights as elected senators.

That article was a grassroots campaign promoted by Autosprint, to try and convince Sandro Pertini to make Enzo Ferrari senator for life.

    He wasn't nominated.

What sort of "rights" are these? For someone that works in the U.S. Capitol, I unfortunately must admit ignorance of the Italian system of government.
Do the Italian Senators receive certain privledges that the ordinary citizen does not, or are you saying the "Senators for Life" have voting rights on legislation?

I mean that they have voting rights, yes. And the same economic treatment as elected senators.
