Call this a noob thread if you want. I've previously heard of an Enzo being in India but was never sure of it. There is a discussion going on, on an Indian Car Forum www.team-bhp.com about an Enzo being brought down here just for display in a new Dealership which opened recently. I was wondering whether its true. Can you guys identify this one? I don't have a VIN or anything.

good Lord ! The thought of that car out in the congestion of the city makes me shudder....some of the potholes will swallow a car...I was over there last Feb and have travelled there a lot over the years. In fairness, roads are better, but driving habits are harrowing, and no quarter is given.

That car wouldn't last a week on the streets.

Nice to see one over there though....from what I saw of the consumer economies of China and India, my gut feel is that precious collectibles will start finding their way over there, much like the exodus to Japan at one point....these economies are consumer driven, and people are starting to want the best of the best.

    Certainly nice for future appreciation....

I was under the impression that there are a lot of car collectors in India. Even though I mostly hear about their love for Rolls, it would really be that surprising that someone might have on in a private collection.

There are a lot of good cars here, lesser in number coz of the pathetic duty structure and import taxes amounting to around 115%. I still doubt that anybody could have gotten an Enzo here.

I dont doubt that someone did purchase an Enzo in India...but they probably will drive it VERY little if not at all.

I have some wealthy family in India that own several Mercedes Benz and Rolls, but they rarely drive them because of the bums on the street. If you are in a nice car and a bum comes and begs for money, if you dont give them anything then they will scratch your car. Some areas are really corrupt. My family ends up just going around in a nomal car so they go unseen. The Benz and Rolls only get taken out on special occassions with lot of security near by.

If you have a nice car in India, you are a player, end of story....

The import duties as someone here mentioned, will leave your mouth agape.

Frankly with the wealthy in India being as wealthy as they are, I am really suprised to hear that no Enzo's have been purchased just for private collections

trust me, the import duties only apply to the middle class, if u are part of the elite you can get around the duties, and I know for a fact that there are a few supercars in northern Pakistan, so i dont see why you cant drive an enzo in India. Plus, people in mercedes benz's have security cars with them, so im sure someone in an enzo can afford 2 security cars with them.

The guy in the picture definitely looks Indian. His skin color, his posture, his dress style, his shoes all very Indian.

This "pathetic duty structure" you speak of is designed to protect our rising economy. you being from here should respect that.

Quite an exaggeration, really. people in Mercedes' do not generally have security. i drive around in my fathers mercedes all the time, and there is no problem.
And yes, there are supercars in India too. and at least in cities like Mumbai, the roads aren't too bad.
it is very difficult to get around import duties, even for the elite. one cricketer managed it, sachin tendulkar, but he showed that the 360 was a "gift" from Fiat, so he wouldn't have to pay the duty. there was quite a fuss about it with the government, but eventually he got through..

as far as i have experienced, in 18 years, the "bums" do not scratch your car if you don't give them money. they may curse you a bit, but generally don't damage your car. at least in the cities. which area of India are your family from?

ur talking about the "proper way" to get around it, i know people who have gotten through without paying duties, if u know the right people or throw around some money everyone becomes temporarily blind and nobody sees the car come in LOL

Nobodu trust me NOBODY can get a car through without paying duties. Thats one thing the authorities are strict at. And if you are caught with a car which doesn't have clear duty papers then you are charged 300% of the car cost.

I am sure it is Vijay's car. With the amount of wealth in India today the import duties on cars is the last thing they worry about. I know the roads suck and are crowded, but that is changing. Quite honestly people in India are not buying the cars to enjoy driving them. They are buying it because of status. Its all about who has it first and who paid more for it. Take the weddings in India for example, they will spend millions of dollars on weddings to show who has more wealth.

First of all, its illegal to import an LHD car into India. This is a recent rule. This Enzo was "supposedly" brought in for display at National Garage in Bombay as they are the new dealers for Ferrari and Maserati.

Certainly caught my attention, so I came across this thread on an Indian car site: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super-cars-imports-classics-india/9903-pics-report-ferrari-maserati-group-india-launch-party-mumbai.html - also saw some pics of a Gallardo in Hyderabad

Some clarification from http://www.keral.com/cars/Ferrari_planning_to_enter_India_in_2008.htm - interesting article

I heard that one of the owners of the FXX is a Ferrari dealer in India so the Enzo could be in India. Wheather the car gets driven is a different matter.
