Hope this isn't a repost - Oct 2004 issue Ford GT40 VS Carrera GT VS Ferrari Enzo Flat out fastest (around an oval) - MT mentioned that the GT had more to go if there were testing on straight as opposed to oval.... Quote from the Carrera GT "I shut down when I got scared - my heart told my head it was time to lift" Quote from the Enzo "We've never tested a faster production automobile" Ford GT40 200.1 MPH Carrera GT 201.5 MPH Enzo 211.0
Thats Great! Untill you look at the price comparison of these cars and the bang for the buck. What car would you pick then?
200 mph really is no joke...190, even 195 is a dime a dozen, but a true 200+ is rare... Wonder how the Diablos cracked 200 with ease? Anyways, a production Ford hitting 200 mph is pretty impressive. Carrera GT is a highly desirable Porsche, IMHO. Anyone have any experience driving at these speeds?
2.41 final drive....makes sense. Bostonmini...thanks...never considered gearing in this case, and I usually do!
true, it is for bragging rights..unless you track the cars, if you are doing 200mph on public roads, you are a fellon if caught....,and at 200mph, it is easy to be caught breaking the law but is not easy being "caught"
i agree... Not many people will ever achieve 200 mph in an automobile... These may be bragging rights, but they're hollow... They really don't mean anything except for VERY FEW people... If you look at the numbers, clearly, the Carrera or the Ford is the way to go if you're looking the best bang for your buck... ...but if nothing short of a Ferrari will cut it and you're looking for just a tiny bit more for a LOT more money and you want it wrapped in the most beautiful design the world has ever known, the NNO is the ONLY way to go. It's SO worth it, too.
If I had a chance to buy an Enzo at list vs a Ford GT at list, if I could swing it I would buy the Enzo. Just compare the value a few years down the road and then compare bang for the buck. Gary
Even on the track, when would 200mph matter? Unless you are driving a very big oval or the Muslanne straight, who cares? Even in racing these speeds are not reached.
Because these cars are all about bragging rights for most people. If you owned a hyper-exotic worth a million bucks wouldn't you want to know that no other car had a higher top speed? I know I sure would...
What about those very high speed runs in the desert?? There are some scattered roads in the US with straights for many many miles...shouldn't need more than a few miles to guarantee 200 mph if your car can barely reach it. Some of the fastest cars can hit 155-170 mph in the standing mile.
Hey Gary; Heck, if I could *afford* to buy the Enzo at list, I'd buy *both* and have some real fun and blow off thinking about depreciation! - Tim
Senna94, I guess its because both Merc and Mac consider the SLR a GT/touring car, ( Car Magazine, July 04.) I know the argument and weighing of how much cargo space the trunk has is childish, but out of these three I would feel most comfortable taking a long road trip in the Merc. Now if I had to smile when the garage opened, the other three really do it 10 times over. RocketBoy
"Dangit, this spoiled the suprise of the article before I even got the issue" No way Andy, the full feature is a good read
I don't get it. The figures for the most part a little slow, but that isn't that odd for one test. The odd bit is that the GT is almost a full second quicker to the quarter mile than I"ve seen on earlier tests.
Things about this test: A) Pre-production Ford GT B) SLR was unavailable C) Carrera GT made it around the Figure 8 faster. D) Casts even more doubt about the actual true power level of the Ford GT. I personally am thinking 550rwhp. However, I think their are variances within the press cars. E) Those are not the actual top speeds, they are still accelerating at the end.
