I'm kinda confused....why do they keep putting this great engine into these (relatively) crappy cars? I take it you can't just pickup an SLR engine at your local Autozone, so why do I feel like this supply of SLR engines isn't coming from the most legit of sources.....

have to sign up to view it. Highly doubt even that could "own" an Enzo as badly as they make it out to be. ( If the motor isnt modified etc)

I don't really know the source of the engine, but almost any car with a heavily modded engine can own an Enzo in a straight line. C'mon, Ferretti's car could probably own an Enzo at this point.

I never do get these threads. One of our sister companies shop cars is a 1089rwhp Supra, it can own an Enzo. Point is, it's not an Enzo and we'd trade it for one anyday of the week.

Sorry, I just don't understand these threads is all.

Hmm, I'd much rather just take an SLR or just build and boost the SLK55 AMG engine. I guess if you have the money to blow...

Is there more than 1 SLK with an SLR engine? I remember a post in another thread a while back about one in Dubai...

What is the SLR engine's output and the weight of the SLK? I'd gather the SLK would have a much better power to weight ratio than the Enzo. Actually... if the SLK were to go any faster, it might flip over.

But, yeah, I don't get these threads either. (Well... an SLK with an SLR engine is pretty cool, but I'd trade it for an Enzo, too.)
What's the mentality about "affordable" cars being modded to be faster than "exotics?" Is a pride thing? A sense of achievement of value for money (C6Z06 vs ******* threads come to mind)?

    Cool video, though.

there are plenty of modded muscle cars that crush the slk55 so what's the point. I was in my former pantera group4 race car going to a car show when a '69 Camaro pulled up next to me reving his motor. His car was tubbed, blown with wheelie bars and just literally shook the earth. I could smell the race gas so I did the right thing. I pulled into 7/11 and got a big gulp. Point of story. None, guy with the Enzo went home with the Enzo so he wins.

I was told that the slr engine can put out over 1000 hp but was modded down to fit the slr. Has anyone else heard this?

Good to know slk55 with slr is faster, still would rather have enzo.

I actually get the point of doing it. It's what Hotrodders call a "sleeper". They con you into racing something that you think your car can beat, then to your utter shock you get mopped up. It's done for the fun of messing with people, that's all. It's not about driving home in an Enzo, it's about toying with other cars that normally would be faster than the car you are in.

To start. If you put a 600+ horsepower motor into a car that weighs nearly nothing, ie dropping an ENZO engine into a Lotus, it's pretty likely that it will go very fast in a straight line. In case you've spent your whole life racing on a curvy track and haven't had the opportunity to be rocketed forward in a straight line with a seemingly never ending power hurtling you toward the horizon at speeds that contradict what you learned in your physics class in college-- it's fun!!

It's really cool to see something modified and fast that you wouldn't expect to be fast, especially when it's something cool and original like the SLR engine in the SLK. It loses it's coolfactor when someone with oodles of mods on their cars races a stock vehicle, then ridicules the loser and brags to all his friends how "Ferraris" are slow and his "Mustang" just beat it, without even opening up the bottle!! Knowing full well that you did open up the bottle, and you also broke the belt on your supercharger.

Although-- it would be interesting to get a streetrace with an Enzo or something ridiculously fast like that and beat them in a station wagon (There are some that could) just to see the look on the guy's face, it could be priceless. I'm always interested to talk to someone who beats me to find out more about their car and why it's so fast. You never know, the guy could have a Ferrari at home and just be out having fun. He could be a cool guy.

    Good video!

That slk belongs to Mohammed bin Sulayem, a well known ME rally driver - you might have seen some pics of his garage, they float around on the net and are quite known; F40, F50, 911 GT1, CLK GTR, 959 etc etc... I think he wouldnt have ANY problems coming up with that engine in legit ways.

I think the rumor is that the SLR came from an actual SLR the owner of the SLK bought. I think this was the story that the people at mbworld put together.

I'm sure the SLK does REAL well on the track. AKA...do you buy an enzo to just go in a straight line?

The SLK would probably be better than the SLR on a track.
But the Enzo would kill it with its cornering speeds.
