Hi all, I just recently picked up a (new to me) 2011 458, and while the first couple drives were fine, I’ve recently started to get EPH and AVH failure messages. The car is always on a trickle charger when parked in the garage, and I don’t get the messages on initial startup and drive - only when I briefly park (eg. to get gas) and re-start the car. This leads me to believe it may be a battery issue… from what I can tell, the e-brake still works properly, even with the warning messages. I also received a “electrical system failure - go to dealer” message on initial startup once, which again leads me to believe it may be battery-related.

    Has anyone experienced something similar?

Which trickle charger are you using? The factory ones suck and often cannot maintain a good voltage and charge rate. Use another battery maintainer and hook it up directly to battery. The battery is under passenger floorboard, just unscrew the retaining screw and the access door will fold down. If the issue persists replace the battery - preferable not a ferrari or lithium. I put in an interstate battery and noco genius charger three years ago and have not had these problems since.

It might be the brake pedal switch, about a $40 part. When it goes bad the car will throw up these random AVH failure, ABS failure, etc and go into Wet mode. As far as the "Electrical System Failure- go to dealer", I was still getting that error after the brake pedal switch and installing a good Anti-Gravity battery. The fix ended up being to replace the NVO board. For me that error was temperature dependent: happened in colder temps.

I have had that error a couple of times, but at startup only. My car is on the tender at all times.

I started to do a very long start cycle. Basically I wait until all the beeps stop, then adjust my seat and put on my seat belt, then start the car.

And since the brake reservoir recall, I also make sure to pump the brake before starting.

    No problems since my changes.
