From the Bonham's text re the Boxer 365 18157 sale:

"Clapton had ordered the Ferrari after seeing George Harrison turn up with the same model at his Hurtwood Edge estate."

I thought this story relates to the first Ferrari Clapton bought, a 365 GTC. I've not heard before that George Harrison had a Boxer.

Boxers are the absolute bargain. First mid engine 12 cyl ferrari production road car. And yet a Dino is 2x to 3x. 356 Porsches are around the same for some variants..

They really are absolute bargains and are real dream cars. They look even better in the metal and are among my very favourite Ferraris of all time. I absolutely love Dinos but a Boxer is a far superior machine.

Sometimes, power is not the reason for buyers.

The biggest Dino buyer today is a guy under the age of 60 that comes from the Porsche world, where they pay crazy prices for much higher production numbers.

They haven't budged in price over the last 10 years while the dollar has declined. The market has spoken.

One big advantage Dinos have is being 6 cylinders they cost a lot less to restore and maintain than their more sophisticated 12 cylinder bigger bretheren. Unfortunately for Boxers and the 2+2 V12s restoration costs are at least as high as for the older 2 seater V12s and these restoration costs could actually exceed the value of the car by a few multiples.

Romano, yes, less power, but a ballet dancer compared to a 'slightly' less agile car. :)

How much less does it cost to rebuild a Dino? A few multiples, of which multiple?
Sophisticated, how? when compared to a '73 V12?
A rear end transaxle is easier than a gearbox included with an engine block.

Yes, possibly some more machining involved, but a dog engine is a dog engine no matter which or where....

So rebuild a Dino motor will cost 1/2 of a Daytona? Not necessarily. It is on a case by case issue.

That’s also what I had in mind, Clapton saw George arrive in his GTC and fell in love, passed his driving licence and bought one !

Another story about the 365 (but History doesn’t tell us if it was the same Harrison visit) is one day in early Spring 1969 Harrison visited Clapton at his house, picked up a guitar among several in the boot of the Ferrari and started playing walking in the garden, which ended by creating Here Comes The Sun !
