Erratic electrics!

I was driving my 86 Testarossa and the battery light flickered and continued to flicker, stereo packed up, dash lights were off on off on and finally car packed up up charging. I think I know the answer eg alternator. But the strange thing is I have charged the car and I don't seem to be getting a battery light when I switch on the ignition, yet it will start up but it will flicker when running. Help!
Are there any threads on alternator removal?
