Actually the escort worked the way it should have. But how do you tell a court that the reading was incorrect due to the laser diffusers that were on your car?

Directional arrows are the most useless thing ever. If you are getting hit, who cares where its coming from, slow down:)

I'm with you :) After using the v1 for about 5 years I tried out my friend's escort, I couldn't stand it. I for one like to know where the police or automatic doors are coming from. I would never trade my v1 for any other detector. :)

On one occasion when driving to canada on the thruway, I was getting hit with radar from the rear. I slowed down, next thing you know I see the trooper coming up from behind, I pull to the right lane and wave to him as he drives by. Im guess the tropper was driving along checking people's speed.

I definately find value in the arrows :)

V1 for me - hands down.

It actually teaches you what different signals mean by use of the arrows.

I must respectfully disagree -- directional arrows (and the bogey counter) make a HUGE difference. A few scenarios I see on a regular basis while driving:

    1. Get a steadily increasing signal ahead, slow down, keep my eyes peeled, don't see anything, then I see the signal to the side/back and I know that I'm either past it or it was on the other side of the highway -- time to get back to speed. Without the arrows I'd still be looking around for another 5 - 10 seconds wondering where the source is (until it fades away).

    2. Driving along, suddenly get a strong Ka signal from behind. I can scan the mirrors and pretty quickly figure out if it's an approaching cop or if it's a random signal from some car behind me. Without the arrows, I'd be back in "slow down and look ahead" mode, which again wastes time...

    3. On the bogey counter -- back when I lived in Boston, the Mass Pike had a ton of those warning signs with radar beacons shooting K-band on them. I got used to seeing them until one day I was approaching at night and got a "2" on my V1, with one signal being Ka....sure enough, the cop was hiding right behind the K-band beacon shooting Ka....very very sneaky...would have totally been nailed without the V1.

There's just no way to compete without the arrows & counter...

Could not agree more...How many times have we all gone through the usual local spot where we pick up a false 'bogey' (ie: traffic warning sign, a 'Your Speed' display sign) and ignore it as you know it's not a cop. On several occasions the 'bogey counter' on my V1 has saved me when there was a cop hidden close to where the false bogey is located (sneaky, sneaky...) Had I been using an Escort, I probably would have ignored it and gotten busted...

From '93 to '95 I averaged 5 speeding tickets a year (and ridiculous $ in lawyer fees)...I got my V1 at the end of '95 and have gotten zero speeding tickets in the past 11+ years. Valentine has definitely earned my loyalty...

I am a valentine 1 all the way....Am I reading the escort ad right...it is using GPS the remember possible set up zones so when you go there again you remember. This sounds like the begining of GPS assisted radar tracking...That will really be the eyes in the night when you dont even have to be in range to know where they are set up....The future is here now!
Imagine before you leave home, you can check where they are....
This is all because of our constitution, freedom of radar tracking clause

Those features seem pretty silly. I've seen more than a few donut sharks hiding out by mini malls and such by known areas of X/K band false alerts. I'd rather get a false than a ticket.

The GPS location thing also seems pretty useless.

Doesn't look like it does anything better than my V1.

    Hey Stewart -

v1.8. All accessories included, including current mounting cups and an extra unused pair.

    Serial number 4489370726.

From Valentine 1 site with this serial number:

"This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser with just one exception—it lacks POP Protection. Of interest to those who drive in Europe, the latest V1 version also has a Euro Mode."

The unit is in perfect working condition.

Included are the original box, accessories and a $29 special carrying case.

Feel free to PM offline to discuss if interested.

    Best.

What I am getting at is...Most likely the Future of radar detectors will be those radar detecting GPS units installed in our navigation systems...So big Pink Bacon icons will appear on our Nav screens depicting satelite pick up of instantaneous police radar and laser signals, with voice notification and in mercedes it will be wired into Distronic braketronics...Maybe they will put the set up in our Ipod and cell phone too!
    its a wired world

how (or is?...) two band POP that much more advantageous to one-band? The blurb on the site makes it sound like the POP feature would be for eliminating false positives (i.e. - determining if a signal is coming from another radar detector). Is this a correct interpretation?
