Gridiron Playoff Challenge, Salary Cap league, if anyone is interested let me know, I will start a league, or someone else can and let us know. I don't want to do it unless we have six entries or more. This needs to be done by Friday midnight PST so we can select players before the Saturday Noon game.
Let's just do this: ESPN Gridiron Playoff Challenge 2010 It is a public league called 'Ferrari Chat', you don't need a password or anything to join the league, but you do need to register on ESPN. http://games.espn.go.com/gridironpc/en/frontpage MAKE SURE you read the rules, there is a lockout time that once you pick players, you CANNOT change them, even if their team is eliminated. PS - I think the first Saturday game is 2pm Eastern (?)
+1 [Have you set a roster yet? - If you have, I can't seem to see it. Mines done (for now at least.)] Come on people! You're gonna be watching the games anyway! I've never done a salary cap league before - Looks really interesting - I have no idea how much the values will change week after week, but for now at least the cap pretty much allows you to get the "best" (most expensive) heading in. Sign up! Cheers, Ian
Yeah i set my roster. It says you can't see anyone else's till play begins. I have never done a salary cap league before so this should be interesting.
+1 to all of the above! I have renewed interest in the playoffs, and am looking forward to seeing how player values swing. But, why so little interest I wonder? Maybe "we" should try in silver? Cheers, Ian
You guys set your roster for this week? I am not sure I understand the point of the salary cap for this. I haven't come close to it with my roster either week so far.
I've come close, somewhat deliberately, but certainly didn't have any "problems" getting the guys I wanted. Maybe it'll be different next week? Thus far I'm with you - I don't quite get it...... Cheers, Ian
The regular season ESPN salary cap was much different (price-wise) than this one. Yahoo had one thru Facebook that they REALLY screwed up - all season long you could afford just about anyone you wanted. 2009 was quite different, it took some skill to manage the cap. I hope they both don't screw up the 2011 season contests.
OK, we're half way thru the weekend and the only value changes (on my team) are Todd Heap +0.3 and the Green Bay defense +0.2. Why hasn't Aaron Rodgers value increased for example? I thought (wrongly it seems) that player values would change a lot more based not only on their performance but the # of entrants who chose 'em - It seems there's over 50K folk playing - That's a pretty reasonable sample size. Further, I thought any value increases could make the studs too expensive - Thus requiring some skill (guesswork?) at staying under the cap as guys get knocked out. Right now, anyone can pick up anybody it seems - No cap restraints at all..... Having said that, I've just noticed that there's $2K for the overall winner! *Serious* stuff! I'm apparently sitting at "93.0%", which I believe means I've scored more than 92.9% of the entrants. Although there are still over 20K folk with more points than me at present (!), most of those are done for the weekend - I've still got Brady, Forte and a RB to go..... Which brings me to my point - Should I go with Marshawn Lynch or LT today? (Or, anyone else come to that!) Cheers, Ian
See post #11 It's screwed up, as I said, nowhere near the challenge it was in 2009. As far as telling you who to play, I won't touch that: remember: I'm in competition with you, do you want to know what I would do, or what I hope you do to benefit me? BTW, in the regular season Sal Cap, I had one team finish in the top 99%, another in the top 98%, and in 2009 I had a team finish 40th out of 98,000 entrants. * And how do you know 'most are done for the weekend'? I would find that VERY VERY hard to believe.
There's only 3 of us playing!.... Hardly a "big win!" I only checked a few "random" entries in the top 100, which leaves about 19,900 folk I still need to get ahead of eek, but at least it's got my interest...... TBH, this very limited exposure to a salary cap league has so far been disappointing (leaving aside our pathetic attempt!) - Unless the cap has implications, and I thought with this many players it should have, why not just let everyone choose whoever they want? I guess we'll see where we are tonight. FWIW, I've gone with Lynch today. Cheers, Ian
Well, I've addressed how much a farce the 'cap' is, I hope it's better this Fall. Right now you have a 19 point lead, and TBH, it will take a miracle for anyone to catch you because from here on out my bet is we will have largely the same players on our rosters. I went with LT and Michael Turner this past weekend. As usual, I made ONE last minute change to my roster and it cost me dearly, I HAD Greg Olsen at TE until I swapped him out.
I can't believe how wrong I have been with my playoff predictions this year. Not at all surprised by being last place right now..
I dunno - 19 points isn't a lot and there's still 4 QB's (etc) for one more week..... Wish I had! Lynch didn't score anything! Oops!...... You shouldn't say "last" - You're in a solid 3rd place! Cheers, Ian
Good point. You never know though - Maybe Rex will "let the leash off".... In Pittsburgh. In the snow. Cheers, Ian
Rex had BETTER take the leash off - so he can run out of bounds before that Pittsburgh defense plants him in the frozen tundra. Oh wait - that's Green Bay. Well, anyway.... What sux is every QB in the playoffs is CAPABLE of throwing 5 TD's - even Sanchez.
Indeed. Plus, no more lineup changes after this week so it's possible (likely?) at least one or two of us will be playing the final with only one QB Cheers, Ian
Here is the problem: Most everyone will be loading up on players from GB and Pitt, and from those teams, most everyone will be loading up with the same players, so from here on out, unless there is an upset, the results will pretty much stay the same. Assuming the above is correct, only differences are going to be which #2 WR you take, and which K and DST you take, and I don't see there being a lot of (point) differences between the two K and DST units.. so with that said, the only real option is to take a team that may pull an upset, so it is essentially 'sink or swim' - I will either win or do no better than I currently am, not just in this league but in all the other leagues I am in as well.
I am in some leagues via Facebook/Yahoo, and for the playoffs, the players you take are 'one and done'. If you used Aaron Rodgers against Philly, that's it, he's done, you cannot use him anymore. Same goes for ALL players. That kinda sucks because you have to use who you think will give you good numbers, but either lose, or you don't plan on using them anymore if they win. I am in the top 2% in those leagues. The ESPN league is a joke because as you said, you cannot make any changes from here thru the SB. I am 19 points behind in the FC league, I doubt I make it up, in another league I am 8 behind, in another one I have a lead. I think the NFL.COM league lets you make just 8 changes after the playoffs start, maybe that is the one we should have done. And the Salary 'Cap' is a complete joke.
As you can tell by my score today, I'm done. The only way to even have a prayer was to take a chance on an upset win, and even though I was close, that upset didn't happen. In the FC league I took all GB and NYJ players, but that is fine because in my other league(s) I took all GB and PITT players.
Hmm..... Looks like I'm in good shape here as well [I'm now ranked at 96.1% in ~11k place! ] I don't have a TE or a kicker for the SB, but there we go - No big deal! [I suspect that statement will come back to haunt me.....] As for the "experience", I've got to say I'll probably only join the "regular" FChat league next season - OK, I know this was only a brief "flirtation" with the salary cap approach, but it seems there's too many "decisions" that are made by..... I don't know who. At least in regular fantasy you can only swear at yourself! Cheers, Ian
