Some car manufactures recommend ester base 5-30 engine oil, is it really matters or any good 5-30 synthetic oil will do it. Thanks.

    1) Which carmakers actually require or recommend an ester-based engine oil, rather than a "full synthetic" specification?

    2) What vehicle are you asking about? For most vehicles, full synthetic oil is good enough. For some, I would be more specific or choosey about what I'd run if it were my own vehicle.

Ester based oils have a better HTHS viscosity for the same KV100 (kinematic viscosity at 100ºC). This only really maters if you are running the oil hot (like on a track) and running the snot out of the engine (also like on a track).

So you recomend for track use?

Which begs the next question. For track use how many miles should go between oil changes assuming a great single ester oil.

After a day at the track, I would have all the fluids changed.

RedLine with HTHS above 4.2 cP.

Never arrive at the track with more than 1000 miles on the oil, and with fresh brake fluid (less than 1 week old).

After you get back, change the oil (again) you have consumed the anti-wear parts of the additive package.

I Use Motul single ester oil. Usualy change every two track days. On the elise it went to the track with 400 miles on the new motor, 7k track miles later burns no oil.

On the exige I was told to run oil for 800 or so track miles, or say 3-4 track days.

Brake fluid I use endless, or castrol srf, that seems good for quite a while, I woudl say 8 track days and even then its not really done.

On the Gt40 it was recomended to run 10/30 single ester oil. I asked the engine builder about this and eh said it was all about the heat range of the oil and great oil would not break down but a lighter oil would always flow better.

Yet on the exige they recomend 10 40 for road use but 20/60 for track use, however the recomended oil is mobil 1 which is not a single ester by any means. So if one were running a single ester should it be 10/40 or still 20/60/

    Different theories.
