Curious to know if the litte etched "A" on the drivers door window is from the factory or if a previous owner just did it for whatever reason.

The glass seems to be original.

It is one of the infamous 365 GTB/4 A - maybe that´s the reason?

Does anyone else have this "A" on their car?

    Chassis number please.
Plus photo of the etched "A" (I do know how it looks like).
Plus photo of the ID tag in the engine compartment.
    PLEASE.
    Thank you.
(yes, have seen quite a number of Daytonas with the etched "A", none of the restorers around Modena has an answer nor does Classiche, have already asked at least five different sources in and around Modena and Maranello).

Makes me wonder if this ^^ means I might be the only person to likely figure it out.
Hopefully not, but wouldn’t be a first and proves OCD can offer some advantages.

    I recognize that car. ;)

No, not like the As pictured above. Mine looks like a regular and simple sans serif A.

And it is only on top of the driver side door window.

Will take pics of the A and ID tag when I‘m back at my garage.

Well, never been my aim, but unless you do it yourself, ...
... you may have to wait awhile.
I may include a paragraph or two in a book I hope to publish someday about countless other obscure and strange details I've encountered and researched while working on old cars.

This might even sound offensive to ask but could it be something as simple as the glass manufacturer's mark?

I was able to look at #16763 today and both rear quarter light glasses have the etched "A" like my previous, and Marcel's photo.

I am 99% certain that this is the marking put on replacement glass that was manufactured for Marpart, now Maranello Classic Parts here in the UK. I don't know who made them, but I think it was just Dino and Daytona glass.

I remember seeing the "A" in new cars of the 70's, not aftermarket

All DOT approved safety glass since 1 January, 1968 in the USA had AS1 for the front windshields, and AS2 for side windows, denotating the type of safety glass being used in different locations/ applications.

It seems that the mystery has been solved and it is just a marking of the glass manufacturer and nothing from the Ferrari factory itself.

    Thank you guys.

According to St Gobain website it is confirming the glass complies with a hardness test. Only applies to toughened glass not laminated
    Information compliments Mr Alan Henderson

We talked about this many years ago on here, the curved A is on some cars from Europe and the UK as well, but a low proportion, there was no real answer.

An additional datapoint from Dino 06236, built April 1973 for the Italian market, original glass. The vent window has a curved A and the main window has a simple capital A. Image Unavailable, Please Login
