Back in 1997 Land Rover stopped importing the Defender! I wish they wouldn't have, but they did! Went onto L.R website and the new ones they carry over in England are awesome! I love the Range Rover, but can't afford it, and the new L.R replacing the discovery (or the discovery for that matter), I don't like!

I wrote Land Rover asking if they ever had plans to bring the discovery back to the U.S. They responded by saying that they have no plans for it because L.R would have redesign the Defender in order to meet stringent safety regulations and emissions standards!

My question is...what do you think the cost would be to bring one over and have the conversions done! My guess, is it would be way too much to be worth it! I see a lot of the 97 and older defenders selling today for more than they were paid for new, even some with 100,000+ miles. Seems like L.R would deffinately have a market for it! I for one would love to have a rag top defender! Just an idea to toy with, really!

By yourself a used Gwagen. Some 02's can be had for a steal. Try and find one with a warranty still left and you will have a truck that blows the defender away. (Although I do think the defender looks cool!)

I'll never own a MB...no desire. No offense to anyone who does...I just never will as it's not my style! I'm as stubborn as anyone. What I want is what I want...I'm sure others can relate. Just sucks tha the thing I want I can't get in this instance. Tell someone who just bought or is buying a 430 that the better choice is a Gallardo....bet most would say that they don't care. I know this is like comparing apples and oranges. I've always loved the defender. Always will...just wish they'd bring it back.
