Was the Euro Spec'd 308 QV ever offered with the shallow front spoiler? I'm thinking of doing a euro bumper conversion for a USA QV and looking for inspiration - I think I'd keep the shallow spoiler if it was a factory option on some cars.
The shallow front spolier was actually standard fit on all Euro/UK/AUS 308 qv's. The deep front spoiler was an option, usually with the rear deck lid spoiler combined although I know off original QV's that have deep front spolier and no rear! Hope that helps? Grim
As written many times, the shallow front spoiler was standard on "Euro" cars, it is the deep one that was an option ("Sottoscocca Anteriore Maggioratto" = Augmented Front Spoiler). You saw, and still see, slightly more cars with the shallow front spoiler in Europe than with the deep one. Rgds
The deep front spoiler became available in 1977, as an option (paying); the roof spoiler, available later, on the first injected cars if my memory, etc...also was an option (paying). The two options were not coordinated, you could buy one, the other, or both, or neither. Rgds

Nerofer I NEVER said they were co-ordinated. I said usually those who wanted and paid for the deep front spolier usually purchased the rear as well. Some didn't. And for the record the rear spolier was available before the injected 2v cars arrived. The Boxer type rear spolier was being fitted and sold by UK dealers along with deep front spoiler, Speedline 16' wheels with Pirelli P7 tyres and higher lift camshafts in 1979 as a "hot up" pack for carby 308 GTS/GTB models. Autosport magazine in the UK road tested just such a car (GTS) with the story appearing in their October 25, 1979 Edition! Grim
Seems some misunderstanding here: I was simply adding weight to what you were saying, that's all... But if my memory serves me well, the "sprint pack" - which was available at the end of 1977 - was precisely "all in one": ie, both spoilers, the hotted-up camshafts, etc...you bought the lot, one could perhaps buy the pack, and have only some part of it installed...so my question is, did the car tested by "Autosport" had only the rear spoiler, or the whole "Sprint pack"? So far, all documents I have seen listing the rear spoiler alone (with a price for it) as an option start only with the injected cars... Besides, there were also differences from market to market: For instance, up to this day, I have yet to find ONE "Rosso Corsa" 328 sold new by Pozzi in France with "Crema" leather; for reasons that escape me, this was never offered, whereas in the U.K, most "Rosso Corsa" 328s have "Crema" leather. Why not in France? I would like to know. Or why did all these "Rosso Corsa" 328s delivered new by Pozzi have only black roof spoilers? The "roof spoiler painted in body color", which is very common on German, U.K cars, etc...was not offered for french red 328s...why? Also the list of options available in some countries could be different: U.S cars usually were sent to the U.S by the factory with almost all available options already installed, only a few remaining options were left for the owner to chose. Rgds
That was at the direction of the US importer. We did not even have radios offered. ABS was not offered until 1989 and it was standard. Deep spoilers were an option. So was Boxer paint. Deleting the roof spoiler was an option but a very rare one. Painting roof spoiler was an option but done far more often after delivery than before. Its very possible those combinations were just not favored by someone at Pozzi who was in a position to make choices on what was ordered. I have to admit I have never been a big fan of R/C Crema or red carpets. R/C with Red carpets are nearly never seen US version cars. In the US red interior or red carpets are generally only seen on white or black cars.
For what it's worth my '77, #22963 is a silver car with red leather and carpets -- and red pinstripes.
Nerofer No offence intended. The Autosport car tested had the full "sprint pack" with both spoilers. I think as Rifledriver said, a lot of what was available as options was country of sale specific. Red carpets were almost standard on UK cars but rare elsewhere! I have lots of Maranello Concessionaires UK sales literature in my 308 collection and it lists the deep front spoiler as an option all the way from late carby cars to the injected 2v models with NO mention of the rear spolier! Most UK 2vi cars appear to have been delivered without the rear spoiler. In Australia the rear spoiler appears to have been standard fiting on 2vi and QV models but the deep front is a rarity. I know when the cars were new in Australia the cost of options was very high (Ferrari's famous price gouging), most owners didn't bother..... Grim
Grim Reaper tr, The aerofoil didn't appear on dealer documentation as an option, like front spoiler, camshaft or even 16" did (78-79), do you have any official paper that shows this possibility ? That would be cool to date this particular option... Thank you!
I agree. I find no documentation the rear spoiler even existed prior to the QV. Many items such as this were added later and we need to be careful not to include modified cars as proof. The rear spoiler is in fact included in factory documents as dating back to QV and 208 Turbo versions. As always in the search for accurate history I am happy to be proven wrong.
You know how precious the spaces here are and how much they cost, we need to squeeze up tight to save more space... j/k Actually this is close to the truth! No one wanted to end up with an unnecessary repair bill.
Blatantly parked like this to ensure all the cars were in the picture, without the photographer having to stand half a mile away.
Eurospares in the UK have new, genuine Ferrari 308 deep front spoilers (No'19 on the drawing) available for @ $2145 + shipping: https://www.eurospares.co.uk/Ferrari/308/308_GTB_(1980)/PartDiagrams/153/Body%20Shell%20-%20Outer%20Elements%20(Variants%20for%20RHD%20-%20AUS%20Versions) (It's quoted for a RHD Australian car, but I can't see why it wouldn't fit a US market car) Maranello classsic parts (under ferrariparts.co.uk) also have them in stock: https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/part/search?SearchText=61182900 £2215 with tax + shipping (Which works out to be @ $2665 + shipping)
I have 3 original UK brochures from Maranello sales which arent dated unfortunately. 1: shows the 512bb, 400 and 308gt4 as well as the 308 gtb/gts with their specs and options, so clearly for the carby cars....deep front spolier available for 308 gtb/gts along with spot lamps and wide wheels, air con and metallic paint. (no mention of rear spoiler). 2: shows 512bb, 400i &400i automatic, Mondial 8 and 308 GTBi/ GTSi , options for 308 2vi are air con, metallic paint, spot lamps, Pirelli P7 tyres and deep front spoiler (no mention of rear spoiler) 3: shows 512bbi , 400i & 400i automatic, Mondial 8 and 308 GTBi/GTSi, options for 308 2vi are same as brochure number 2 with NO mention of rear spoiler! I guess we can date the brochures by the models featured....308 gt4 and then 512 bb and 512bbi after the move to injection for the boxer. Hope that helps? Grim
Rifledriver, The first time I can find a 308 gtb/gts with a rear roof spoiler was the experimental car displayed at the 1977 Turin motor show with the rivetted on fender flares and TRX metric wheels and tyres. Interestingly the deep front spoiler on that car was made of aluminium and not fibreglass! We know the rear spoiler was available in the UK for 308 GTB/GTS carby cars as part of the dealer fitted "sprint pack" in 1979 as Autosport magazine roadtested and pictured such a car in their October 25th 1979 edition. But then I have have not seen any car factory equipped with the rear spoiler until the 208 Turbo 2vi injected/308 QV cars arrived as you stated. I have NEVER found or seen any evidence that the 2vi 308's delivered in Europe/UK or USA had the rear spoiler factory fitted or available as an option.....except Australia! The 308 2vi Australian cars were late pre QV production and were "bitsa" cars....QV front hood with grille being one example! Grim
I’ve heard converting to the Euro spec bumpers saves a couple hundred pounds because the US spec was functional, where the Euro was cosmetic. Any truth to this?
I don't think neither of them are functional in modern standard... Euro being lighter for sure though.
