I just spent about 30 minutes searching archives and have decided there is no current proper solution. Virginia has a front tag law and I work on a military base that sometimes likes to enforce the regulation, so I think it would be easier to just make a solution but be able to easily remove the tag (in seconds, without tools). If a current solution exists, please advise, meanwhile I'll briefly state what I'm currently thinking.

My car is an Euro 85 308, so it has an easily removable front bumper (two bolts). The bumper itself has two round male parts that slide into two round female parts that are permanently affixed to the car. One bolt threads from below into the female mount in the car and then into the male part of the bumper when it is slid into the mount. Once tight, the bumper is affixed.

My vision is to create a two-piece bracket. The first piece takes advantage of that round female mount that is affixed permanently to the car. The top part of the top bracket in my design is rounded at the same curvature as the female mount and has a hole the same size as the mount. This curved top part of the bracket, once the bumper bolt is in, cannot move or rotate. Welded to that curved part will be something that comes down that the second part of the newly designed braket would attach to.

The lower part of the two-piece bracket would borrow from the design of the top of the top part of this bracket. The second part would have the actual frame mount for the front plate, and from the rear of that frame mount would come some sort of tube that would slide into the lower part of the upper bracket. These two tubes would have a hole that lines up, and then I'd have some sort of sliding rod that slides through those holes to "connect" them. Maybe this sliding rod has a click button on one end so you just push that button to slide the rod out and then you can remove the lower part of the new bracket.

I borrowed some of these ideas from pictures I saw when searching f-chat, and I'll go back and look for those threads again and post some pictures that might make this make a bit more sense.

Also, note that the Euro and US front ends are quite different. I'd like, if possible, to make this mount have the plate just in front of the spoiler instead of the grill, if possible.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I hope there already exists a solution (chairpilotproducts appears to be down, Dynamic somethingorother was one but they use the tow hook and my tow hook is way back towards the rear of the Euro spoiler (under the car a long way from the front), and they don't have one designed for a 308 anyhow).

One of the sponsors here is Carbonio http://www.carbonio.com and they offer "no drill plate mounts" - not sure if they're easily removable but it's worth a look. There are some quick remove ones on the BMW forums, but they're specific to the cars I think - some use the tow-hook mount on the front etc.

Thanks, I was just looking at their thread and trying to go to their website. Maybe it's blocked by the firewall where I work because it won't load for me. I did watch the YouTube video, and although I like my design idea a bit more, this solution is too easy to ignore and I think I'll just go with that.

    Thanks!

I live in Virginia and feel your pain. I have one of the mounts from Carbonio at it works great. I just leave mine in the cargo area, and if I get stopped, tell the officer I forgot to put it back on after an event. Never had any trouble.
