While my engine is out, I will be sending my Series I car for a full repaint. As part of that process, the entire engine compartment will be redone, as well.

I am looking for a source for the correct Euro firewall foam, and technical/cosmetic guidance on how to properly paint and install the foam.

I have searched through threads and did not find exactly what I’m looking for. Someone did previously post that HVL Classic Interior might have the correct material, and I have reached out to them. I am also interested in seeing if anyone has another source for the correct material, whether domestic or overseas.

Unfortunately, the prior owner used a Wurth-style schutz all over the engine bay, so the paint shop will be addressing that.

I know the foam is painted in a color similar to the fuel tanks, which I believe is code Fer101C.

I would appreciate any input you all have as to whether there is any additional material applied to the foam, such as the schutz or another high temperature paint/material?

Also, should there be schutz anywhere on this car, or is that material completely inappropriate for this application?

Were engine compartments body color from the factory, or the matte black?

Thank you in advance for any help and guidance. The car is currently red, but I am curious to see what we will find beneath the layers as they come off.

    Cheers.

All that undercoating horribleness is most likely factory, super fun to remove

Look under your carpets by the front wheels wells for the original color. My car is silver now, was red prior but factory documents stated it was Azzurro Cielo, ripped up my carpets to replace with new and look what I found. Azzurro Cielo. One of 11 painted that color.

Funny. We looked initially and only found red. Then while taking off a door jamb plate, we found a blue color on the backside. Still not sure whether that will end up being the original color, or if perhaps a replacement part was sourced at some point.

I most likely will go with original color, whatever it may end up being.

Still secretly wishing for Gremoglio Verde!

What factory documentation were you able to get that provided the original color? Classiche?

Ferrari use to supply that information upon application with your chassis, engine and transmission numbers, that is until they figured out that it could be a great revenue source and thus "Classiche" was born. IIRC, they stopped the free info about 15 years ago not long after I got the "Heritage Certificate" for my car.

It looks like the original factory scheme for my car was Argento Auteuil Metallizzato 106-E-1, with dark blue VM 3282 leather interior. I could not find photos of a 308 GT4 in those colors, but I did find a 246. It appears to be a very handsome color combo that will really show the angular lines of the car well.

I'm sure my wife would rather have me go with a silver on red leather scheme, so we shall see wat happens! Silver on red is quite stunning, after all.

So, nobody can offer any insight with respect to the original foam questions posted above? I know someone out there knows.

Very nice combination, MBrandon motorcars had a silver/blue combination for sale a while back, it looked stunning, Euro car restored by Strictly Ferrari. Currently mine is silver/black but I’m swapping the carpets to red.

Have no idea of the source for foam but lizard skin can be applied in a way to approximate the factory schutz on the gas tanks etc.
