Greetings Folks! I'm sure many of you are aware of the Euro Auto Festival that is held at the BMW plant near Spartanburg SC each October, but I thought I might post a little about it in case anyone was not familiar. The EAF is an annual, casual show open to any European cars that you may want to show. There is no "concours" event, but an informal vote by the participants for "best in class" for each marque as well as "crowd pleaser". There is everything there from antiques fron the 1920's to very late model cars. Plenty of exotics, old Brit cars and of course, loads of BMWs and crusty old Italian heaps!!!!! I will be entering my Dino as well as my new 1970 BMW2002. My daughter will enter our 1975 BMW2002 as well. Even if you don't enter a car, its worth the walk-around. It's free! October 15, 2011 which is a Saturday. http://www.euroautofestival.com/ .
Thanks Dean, I'm going to try to bring an old MB down. And maybe see if DocS would tag along. Appreciate the heads up and we'll be in touch. Cheers, RE
We moved to SC two years ago and have made it to the Euro Festival twice, it's a great treat to just see all the cars on Saturday. Another part of the show on Saturday is that for a $30 donation to charity you can drive on the BMW performance track, in several various cars in a speed lap, or take a BMW SUV on their off-road course. The signup for this is now open on the show website.
I signed my daughter and her friend (who will drive one of my 2002s to the show) up for one of the performance driving session, Drive new M5s for $30! I think they will have a blast. Oh, and welcome to the board!
thanks for the welcome, my son and I also signed up for the M5 timed lap--should be a blast. Enjoyed all the cars, but mostly the Ferrari's last year, included two Dinos among others.
Nice reminder UroTrash! This a GREAT event... I've been attending since 2002 and showing a car since 2003. We always have a nice CAFE caravan driving down I-85 that morning. Last year on the drive back, we had a red BB512, black Diablo, and white Countach all in a row - 36 cylinders - Epic!!
Got a note that BMW is only going to offer 3 types of driving this year, 1-wet and dry course 2-head to head on wet course 3-off road Here are about 100 photos from last year's car show, taken on a very sunny day, with everything from VW (featured maker last year) to Ferrari and everything in between that is European on 4 wheels https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1563298813685.2078833.1571797340&l=3f9c1ffef0&type=1 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will be there with two E-types. The other do not miss event is the Hilton Head Concours in November.
Indeed! The weather is said to be perfect this weekend. Should be nice. I'll be there -- 2008 XKR Portfolio.
Tomorrow is looking to be GREAT for the festival! If you want to meet up and join in the CAFE caravan, please do! Even if you're not showing a car, I highly recommend going down as a spectator and enjoying all the fun. Here's the plan: As always, we'll meet up at Belmont Abbey College starting at 7:15 (Exit 26 off I-85). We'll gather in the large parking area to the right as you enter the school grounds. With a prompt roll-out at 7:45, we should arrive at the festival around 9am. www.euroautofestival.com Belmont Abbey College 100 Belmont-Mount Holly Road Belmont, North Carolina 28012 For those that can't join in the drive and are coming earlier or later, here's the address of the BMW plant: BMW Manufacturing Co. 1400 Highway 101 South Greer, SC 29651 (Exit 60 off I-85) Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!! My son and I had a great time at the Euro yesterday, great weather, plenty of cars, etc. We got to drive the BMW 135i on a part of the test track, so that was fun too, and while our times were not so great, I will point out that age and experience went faster than youth and enthusiasm! Here are a ton of photos, everything from a half dozen Ferrari's to a lot of Jag E types, etc. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2377868617421.2126545.1571797340&type=1&l=fd6ec80f2c
