    Hi,

Does anybody know the quantity of the new aircon refrigerant so as to recharge my system. My owners manual states the old refrigerant value.

    Regards,
    Stephen

1,1 kg filling up , 1,3 kg complete new filling. Just done 4 weeks ago, used R134a.
Better to evacuate the system before new filling.

First thing you have to do is determine what refrigerant was in there. Are you sure it's 134? My 1980 has R12. In other words, you better check. Good news is that the fittings are different, so you can't screw up :)

    It had R12.

Unless you source more R12, you will need to convert and that does not simply mean change fittings and refill with 134. You will have some problems, mostly from it leaking through the hose material. Won't blow as cold either.

I don't know the quantity of R12 that a 328 requires, but I have been told by our mechanic that due to differences in the refrigerant, when using 134, it should be filled at 80% of the original R12 requirement. We did this on a non-Ferrari this year, and found the system was cold and worked perfectly. If the 134 fill rate is used, then the system will blow less cold. We just did 80% of the R12 fill on our 328 at a major service and it is blowing cold (which it didn't on the last fill - so we presume it was overfilled previously).

You are still going to have problems with you old non barrier hoses.
