I am looking for the Dino experts out there concerning some specific items on my Euro Dino. I had my car judged at Cavallino back in January. I received 94 pts and a Gold award. Nice enough........however I think there may have been judging errors. Specifics...my car is s/n 5216 a 1973 246 GTS Euro version w/ no a/c nor electric windows.

    1. My car does not have a radio. The judges deducted a 1/2 pt for a "missing" blank radio plate on the dash. They deducted another 1/2 pt for not having the holes in the door panels for speakers. My question is....Were there Euro Dinos that originally did not have the plate or holes in the doors?

    2. I lost a 1/2 point for a missing locking bar that swings over the 3 latch handles that open the trunk, engine cover and fuel filler. I had thought that the Euro Dinos did not have this locking bar. Can anyone verify this one way or another?

    thanks in advance

My basic (ie, no options) 71 Euro GT M-Series (01712) may be too early to use as comparison to yours, but mine has no radio, but does have the blank panel in the dash and the doors do not have any holes in area where speakers might go. There's also no locking bar for the 3 latch handles.

    I have a 73 Euro GTS.

If a radio wasn't installed by the factory, a blanking plate was used. It was covered in mousehair material like the dash and has two bolts on the back to hold it in place. I have not ever seen a Dino without speaker holes that has it's original panels, but can't say of that was original spec or added later when a radio was put in.

All GTS's had the locking bar. Most have been broken off as they are a pain in the rear when unlocked for getting into and out of the car. The bar swings from the outside in, meaning the hinge is located towards the outside of the car. They came with a "V.V" key to lock them in place. The one on my car is original and still has the "V.V" key. I haven't seen a repro version of the locking bar on what is available today to replace this piece.

Only the GTS had the bar to protect the release when the top was off from being pulled.

    Hello Steve,

Shawn already answered most of your questions correctly.
    1) 1/2 pt deducted for a missing blank radio, correct. Picture of 246 GT #06548 (Euro version) attached.
    2) 1/2 pt deducted for not having the holes in the door panels for speakers, incorrect.
If your Dino was not original delivered with a radio and/or loudspeakers, no holes in the door panel is correct. Attached picture of 246 GT #06548 (Euro version) original door panel without holes. This wasn`t delivered with a radio and/or loudspeakers. Interestingly the panel it self is cut out where the loudspeaker would be fitted, just the vinyl covers the cut out. It was also possible to order a E-series Dino without radio, but with loudspeakers. An option not so rare for US-models.
    3) 1/2 pt deducted for a missing locking bar that swings over the 3 latch handles that open the trunk, engine cover and fuel filler, correct.

So 94,5 pts would have been correct.

    Regards Matthias

    Ron, Shawn and Mattias,

Thank you for the prompt responses. I will now have a better direction in making a few improvements. The radio blank plate seem fairly easy if I had the correct dimensions. The locking bar......well that might not be worth the effort. I have a few other items that I can correct to pick up a point or two.

    Your help is much appreciated.

I have owned 246GT 02788 a Nov 71 build Dino since the late seventies. 02788 has a “mouse fur” blocker plate, and no speaker holes in the vinyl door panels.

There is no locking bar on the GT. From the E series parts book Tav 107 (Item 3)

The locking bar should use the same key as the glovebox.
