Anyone have any experience with converting an Enzo? How much will the conversions cost and which shop would be the best?

    Thanks,

Rumor I heard via Dick Merritt was that Euro spec enzos would not be allowed at all - i.e. no compliance is possible. Given that I haven't seen any Euro cars here on the ground, and the huge differential in prices here to there (especially when they first hit the ground) I would tend to believe that this is, in fact, the case. Perhaps a Dubai, Argentina, or Paraguay car would work, I've heard mixed reviews as to whether DOT/EPA working with FNA would allow these in and consider them compliant as they are US Spec cars...

A few months ago, my boss spoke with Mr. Merritt and i begged my boss to ask him this very question... Merritt said that 2003 and 2004 Euro spec Enzos CAN be converted to US specifications, but not 2002... Why not 2002...? Because there were no US version 2002 Enzos made to compare to 2002 Euro spec Enzos...

NNO, do you know if that euro Enzo in Miami was here for a visit or is actually registered here?

The one with Mexican plates seen during Cavallino...? Unfortunately, i have no idea... When it was here for Cavallino, i was under the assumption that it was JUST here for Cavallino... i have since heard rumors that the car remains in the states... i can't say for sure, one way or the other...

Does anyone know where #400 is at the moment? It's Euro spec, rumored to have been purchased by U.S. buyer.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but were there any US spec 2004 enzos? I thought all were '03, but also heard via Dick (long time ago, so this could certainly be outdated information) that, much like the post 2002/3 360's, Ferrari had made it VERY clear to DOT that there was absolutely no way in hell that they would sell the pieces required to make the cars US compliant - I think the exact nature of the complaint was that Ferrari had petitioned DOT and EPA with the assertion that there were some large number (150+ iirc) of parts that differed in part # from Euro spec to US spec (for 360's but the implication brought the Enzo and any other post 2003 Ferrari into the fray), and that none of these conversion houses were purchasing the parts from Ferrari, and that subsequently, a true compliance was not possible. What I had heard was that DOT and EPA grudgingly had to agree with the petition and put the khaibash on all future euro Ferrari imports. That was my understanding on why the Euro enzo never really materialized - I can't think of any other reason there are NO euro spec converted Enzo's here (yes, exchange rate is bad, but not bad enough to equal what people are asking for US enzos)...with cars doing near $1.0+M I would think one would have to have popped up on the radar other than a foreign plated car...

Great question...! As far as i know, no, there are no 2004 US spec Enzos... i remember Gerald telling me there was some gray area with that whole thing, when Mr. Merritt was telling him about it... Something about a pre-mature approval or something... i'm not solid on the details...

The rest of your post was faaaaar too technical for me to comprehend; maybe someone with a better understanding of Ferrari parts and US and foreign specifications can field that one for you...

Are we/they talking about actual 'calendar year' of production or 'model year' of production (July X4 - June X5 or September, whenever)? So basically I'm asking were any Enzos built in either calendar or model years of 2002 or 2004?

Another good question...! One i also have no answer to since we do things differently than everyone else... There are some US Enzos that were built in 2002 but are 2003 USA models...

Yes, Enzos were built in 2002, 2003 and 2004 - i don't know about 2005 for either the US or European markets... However, as far as i know, all US spec Enzos built in 2002 are 2003 USA models... In Europe, though, if they build an Enzo in 2002, it's an '02 model; if built in '03, it's an '03 model and so forth... i don't know why we do it differently here, but we do...

Heh, sorry about that. I forgot to add the US 2002-2004 part, the part that was most important, but forgot :).

So essentially to import a foreign Enzo (before the 25 year thing where anything can be imported), it would have be a Euro Enzo built between the first and last US Enzo, whenever those were built...(or do I have this part wrong, too???)

Yes, so far as i know - and once imported, it has to be converted or it won't be street-legal...

How much slower would be an EURO spec enzo if it were converted to US spec?

That depends on the speed limit in your neighborhood.
