Has any US owner done a Factory delivery recently?
    How was the experience?

I did it last summer-- it was fantastic. I highly recommend it.

They do very few, so if you can get a slot consider yourself lucky. Of course, in these times it might be easier.

Also, they don't make it easy on you. There are quite a few hoops to jump through-- but again, I thought it was well worth it.

When you say "hoops" could you elaborate a bit, or were you just using an expression for the usual stuff you have to do on one ? Everything seemed straight forward on all the Euro factory deliveries I have sold to clients of other makes (MB, Porsche, BMW).

All Ferrari will do is give you the form for the "EE" plates. You have to find an Italian Consulate, get them to stamp it, etc. Ferrari offers no insurance, so you have to find your own (they did offer liability only, at a ridiculous price). Ferrari requires you to wire the money to their bank, well in advance. Ferrari won't give you a date to pick up the car until a month or so before delivery. They sent me six documents, in Italian, all of which had to be completed and FedExed back to them.

When the car came in, it was a "used" car and I had to go to the DMV and get the VIN checked, etc.

In other words, they don't really have an organized program at all.

The good news is that you deal directly with the people at FNA and Ferrari SpA who make this happen-- there is no layer in between. The other good news, for me anyway, is that all the people I dealt with, both at the factory and at FNA, were great to deal with. This helps a lot. I have probably 30-40 emails from people at Ferrari related to coordinating the delivery.

OK.......sounds like a routine for a very low volume event. Definitely not organized like the other manufacturers I spoke of......but still worth the time and effort no doubt.

Did you get to test drive your car on the track? What else did you do at the factory?
    Thanks,

I was there most of a day. I was met by a guy from the sales department and a lady from the logistics department-- who organizes transport for all the cars going to North America. They gave me a private factory tour (we crossed paths with the normal tour a couple of times), and then we ended up at the final assembly area, where my car was sitting with the cover on. We uncovered it, and an after-sales guy appeared to tell me all about the car, and answer any questions.

There was a bunch of paperwork (in the warranty book under "Selling Dealer" it is stamped "Ferrari SpA"), and then they took me to lunch across the street.

We came back, they got me some books we had discussed (the 612 in China book and a yearbook), they gave me advice on restaurants in Bologna along with some advice on navigation, and we discussed how to drop the car off for shipment when I was done. I went to the Museum, and then cautiously made my way back to Bologna.
