    Hello:

I have a little issue with my "new" Euro Mondial QV that I hope someone can give me some guidance regarding... (Unfortunately, I do not have photos, but will take some this evening.)

Leading from the passenger side air intake (i.e., the strakes) there is a silver hose that has rotted away. The hose has about a 2 to 2 1/2 inch diameter. It appears that the hose should go from the strakes towards the front of the car and up into the air box. Is this correct? Does anyone know what this hose is called? I've gone through my PDF part manual and can't seem to find an exact match. I've also checked Ricambi and, again, can't seem to find the proper photo.

The second, although I believe related issue, is that there is a fuel-filter looking device near the same location (just in front of the strakes on the passenger side) that sprays out one squirt of gas whenever the key is placed in the "on" position -- the position when one hears the fuel lines pressurize. I believe that I read somewhere that this is somehow related to the cold-start system, and the device is supposed to squirt the gas into the hose has rotted away on my car. Since the hose is gone on my car, instead of one squirt of gas being sprayed in the hose, it is sprayed on the ground. Obviously this isn't good!

Does anyone know what silver hose is called, and where I can get a replacement? Also, what about the fuel filter looking device that sprays out one squirt of gas when I move the key to the on position?

I'll take photos this evening, but hopefully my description isn't too confusing.

    Thanks!

Pics wil help, but a first wag would be:

    1. Air hose for alternator
    2. Fuel pressure accumulator - you ae seeing gas come out the vent hose - not good, as you say

Look forward to pics to confirm.

Alternator air hose! I bet that's it! It heads off in that direction, and there are remnants near the alternator.

    Thanks!

Russ got it right regarding the air hose to the alternator. (Thanks, Russ!) I never looked at any of the electrical diagrams trying to find the hose, as I figured it was part of the intake system.

I've attached a photo of the accumulator (?) that sprays one squirt of gas when the key is turned to the "on" position. The picture isn't the greatest, but you can see where it appears a hose should be attached to the part. The accumulator is just in front of the rear passenger wheel.

Hopefully in the next day or two I'll be able to lift the car up on jack stands and take a good look under there. Until then, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm looking at?

    Thanks.

That does look like the fuel pressure accumulator; I do not think it is supposed to squirt like that. It keeps steady fuel pressure in the K-jetonic system. I do not think they are rebuildable. I'll defer to K-jet pros on this one.

That indeed is the fuel accumulator...and fuel leaking out of the "vent fitting" under any circumstances indicates a internal failure. Some cars have a hose attached to this vent fitting which circles back to the tank, or even the ground. Regardless, there never should be any fuel leaking from the vent fitting.

Pull the accumulator out, read the Bosch number stamped on it..and order her from any Bosch (not Ferrari) vendor. Typically, they're less than $100...

Thanks again, Russ and David! I installed the new accumulator over the weekend and the fuel leak is gone. I was able to really drive the Mondial since I took deliver of it a couple of weeks ago.

Jeremy, from whom did you purchase your accumulator? Mind quoting the cost?

FWIW, I was told that the air hose was supposed to be routed to the rear, to cool the RH, inboard, CV joint.

You're welcome...and glad to hear that you're back on the road. We've still got a few months before all the snow melts here!
