Il me semble que les ingenieurs ont consommé trop de vin avec l'anti-freeze. Ou bien..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually I saw something similar on Discovery Channel. They want to get from NYC to London in 54 minutes !! In a vacumn tunnel pulling 9+ Gs. http://media.dsc.discovery.com/convergence/engineering/transatlantictunnel/interactive/interactive.html
Why?! I mean, seriously. Why? Spend part of the 12 Trillion on designing faster aircraft and stay the hell out of the ocean!
This is a fantastic dream that will help give more options for trans continental travel. There are many people that do not like air travel and would be very happy to have such an option. Marine researchers and biologists will also have a great outlet to continue research on the Atlantic during the building of this project. There is also a futuristic posibility to have a "Ocean City" under the ocean for entertainment and fun.
Considering the train ride from NY to ATL is 22 hours, an eight hour ride from NY to Paris is pretty damn good... i'm sure customs would be similar to how it is at the airport, but train seems a lot easier... The only beef i have with this is that there's absolutely no margin for error... An accident would ensure the death of everyone aboard the train and would probably be a schedule delay nightmare for anyone awaiting departure afterward... Lastly, i hope Amtrak has absolutely NOTHING to do with this, or they might as well call it the Kevorkian Express... Everytime i go to Amtrak.com, my computer crashes...!!!
Pollution. Jetliners that fly 11 to 18 km high put a tremendous strain on the ozone layer. In comparison a bullet train running in vacuum tube would need very little energy to go 5 Mach fast and have zero pollution. And there would be no delays because of bad weather. BTW, it may be possible to do USA to Europe by train in 25 years. Just build a bridge over the Bering straits, so you can route via Alaska and the entire Siberia. Would take about 20 days and lots of vodka to get from NY to Paris considering contemporary train speeds, but cargo haul may be economically feasible this way.
Underwater volcanos & Earthquakes will be a Biotch. its an interesting proposition but I prefer something like Pres Reagan's plan for the Orient Express, which was a hypersonic aircraft. Or even better a a Rutan design which would enter orbital altitude then come back down. Nothing beats a Star Trek transporter though
Now an undersea city would be way cool There are already a few undersea hotels where you can "sleep with the fishes"
Why would anyone go to France? Plus, since all the airlines are rolling in money, this is a surefire money maker. I'll wait for the digitizing transporter. And I thought I'd be happy with synchronized traffic lights, people using turn signals.
Interesting. I prefer train travel to air travel, but...the concept of becoming a 3,000mph projectile does seem horribly scary.
I think it would be better to use these trains with electricity provided by a nuclear power plant instead of trans continental airplanes. The train can't derail because it's using magnets to levitate off the track and is held onto the track on all four sides (the bottom isn't 100% covered though). It's too expensive to do though, everyone in the world would have to pay $2,000 to get this built, waste of money imo.
Belive it or not the frogs have always lead the underwater world, America actually comes way down the line is subsea exploration, they are only the headlines makers on someone else tech developments. Comex have been without doubt the world leaders in underwater technology for the last 35 years. Eric (Judge) you have far to much time on you hands you must be missing me.
Just a little bored and homesick. Come back to Shanghai soon, the wine rack is filling up and I need some help emptying it.
It would be a neat idea, and a really cool thing to take a trip on. mach five would put strain on your self though...
