I have been in the market looking at Testarossa's and have learned many things on this site (thank you). One item I have no experience with is European Spec cars. I live in FL so I don't have to worry about emissions (my county has no inspection). Is there anything I should think about when considering one of these cars that isn't common to American sold Testarossa's? Are there any differences beyond the catalytic converters? Are the Shoulder belts manual? Etc.

Thank you in advance for your shared knowledge.

What I am really asking: Is there any reason not to purchase a European Spec Testarossa in the US?

The drawbacks are limited resale market (some states can't have them, and some buyer won't consider them). The other issue is the degree or care taken when the car was federalized because some are real hack jobs.

However, the euro car will offer better performance and less complication. It will also probably weigh less, but I can't say for certain with Testarossas. Most of my comments are based on my experience with my euro spec 308.

From what I undrestand, some early 1985 Euro TRs had a more basic Bosch K-jetronic system without cats and the O2 sensors while the US models had the KE-jetronic system with cats. All had the KE by 1986 (with cats or just the 02 sensors?), so after that the differences are minor.

Good question on the auto-belts though...did the Euro TRs have them?

My Euro model has no cats, no O2 sensors, and does have KE Jetronic system.
I believe it is more powerful that the US model but not by much.
Oh did I say it has the steering wheel on the right side as apposed to the wrong side :D :D :D

    this I know Phil,
but he was asking about auto belts
in germany auto belts are belts that roll back automatically when you unplug them. the old belts only hanging around. so I asked about the auto belts because I thaught already he means those mouse belts

Based on my poor memory regarding my former Euro TR. +10hp(insignificant).
Significantly less weight. Several hundred pounds. No mouse belts. Different bumpers and side markers. K-Jetronic.
My TR was from CA. Passed emissions testing in MA with the custom exhaust system I had fabricated.
My wife loved that Ferrari! Not as excited with my subsequent 348 spider and current 355 spider.
