Plan your trip? I just got back from a month in Europe in June. INSANELY expensive.

Basic hotel room at a top notch hotel in Paris was $1K/night. The 40-45% exchange rate loss hurt. 36% isn't all that much better.

Going to Europe in two weeks, but yea, it's still crazy expensive over there.

When I lived in Europe it was 1Euro=.85dollars initially. I lived there and watch the exchange rate fluctuate quite a bit. I had a deposit on my apartment which earned me over 100 Euro interest during that time - THEN when I go to convert everything back to US Dollars the Euro tanked - I ended up losing money although I earned over 100 Euro.

Just my timing I guess....that still sucked though....

When we went to Europe in '98 the euro didn't yet exist. Nevertheless, the trip was expensive.

I remember that when looking for a 330 2+2 nearly ten years ago, the euro was at $.86.

Actually if you get out of the tourist areas, Europe is NOT expensive. The town where I lived for 6 months last year (Treviso) is only 20km from Venice and prices anywhere in the central city area are : E2 for spritz, prosecco, ordinary wine E2 for coffee, E9 for the best pizza you'll ever have (at Dal Pino's), E8-12 for first courses, E15-20 for main courses, etc etc. It's only the tourist stuff that's expensive.

My mother-in law is an Italian war bride ,my wife has cousins and aunts and uncles all over Italy, All we have to do is fly over there and they argue over who gets to wine and dine the relatives from USA. Maybe next year when we retire. My adult son and daughter went over with there respective spouses, and were treated like kings and queens. Warm people over there.

Myself born and raised in Europe, we're all waiting for that to happen too ;)

The Euro is the most useless and destructing thing they've done since WWII lol

Right. But try Norway- 20% higher costs for everything. Highest cost of living in Europe.......

Irony: they have huge oil reserves, although, in decline.

Wow, what do you consider a basic room? We will be in Europe next May and are considering attending the Monaco GP while there and have found 2 room suites in the 250 euro per night range for hotels around 5 klms outside of town.
