Has anyone here had positive or negative experiences with Evans Automotive in Columbus? I'm looking at a car that had its major service performed there. Ultimately the PPI will be done elsewhere, but I'm always interested in knowing what kind of care a car has had.

Feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable posting here, although I'm really interested in the "went the extra distance" or "couldn't fix it" kinds of stories and how you'd rate them on the "competent" to the "restores concours and vintage competition cars regularly" scale.

    Thanks in advance.

I've never had any dealings with them outside of buying some parts from them, but I have never heard a bad word spoken about them. I hear they are WELL versed in italian exotics and do routine maint. as well as restoration work.

I too have heard nothing but good about Evans. Like spang308 I've also only bought parts from them...but shipping was quick and the price was good. I would think that if there were some negative aspects to them we'd have heard something by now. An independant PPI is always recommended however. Still....it is surprising how little is said about Evans considering the work they do.

Thanks for the comments - I'll keep checking back here, but if there is any bad news I'm guessing it would surface here.

I'm sorry, I've had TERRIBLE experiences with Evans.......on a few different cars......TERRIBLE! I would NEVER go there. Sure if you are ordering parts or having stuff shipped to you, but NEVER bring your car there to get work done. EVER! Someone on here has mentioned they are GROSSLY overpriced. IMO that is a huge understatement, not to mention what they do and what they say they did could be two ENTIRELY different things....................It is my opinion and my advice that this shop should be avoided at all costs..................NEVER BRING YOUR CAR THERE TO HAVE WORK DONE..............maybe order parts or have stuff shipped, but never entrust your car to them. EVER.

I have never taken my cars there - however many in our local Ohio Ferrari/Lambo club have... I have not heard of any bad experiences from any of them.

Have heard they do cost a bit more than other independents. But they also have a huge service center (I mean huge) - so the overhead to operate is bigger than most independents. Their shop is very impressive BTW.

Well, Mr. Evans had the shop for a long time, then his son (George, I think) took over...........their shop is Huge, but the whole shop isn't dedicated to exotics.........let's say they have 14 bays..........2 or 3 handle the exotics with 1 or 2 specialized mechanics. I have dealt with the owner directly on a few occasions..........I have nothing good to say about him or the business. Sorry.

    Wow.

OK, let's say their prices are sickeningly exorbitant, highway robbery.

I'm looking at a car (308) that was last serviced there earlier this year. Assuming the previous owner got gouged on the pricing, should I be concerned about the quality of the 30K service?

I'm planning a PPI for the car (if the seller and I can agree on a price), but the car is priced with its recent service taken into account. My concern is that all of those 30K items were done properly and with quality parts, not whether the last guy overpaid.

(And BTW thank you for the post.)

Before passing judgement, I'd like to hear SPECIFICS about what is meant here by "overpriced". Relative to what? What were the prices? Good work is not cheap, and cheap work almost always ends up being very expensive in the long run.

Ditto, especially in the context of Ferrari's, where "bargain" isn't even in the realm of most discussions.

I wouldn't necessarily be concerned with the 30K service and the quality of work.........however, I WOULD NOT get a PPI done by Evans, have an independent do the PPI and have them verify the proper work was completed. As far as outrageous prices, in my experience, his prices are not only OVER INFLATED, even by Ferrari Standards, but they chargefor work he didn't do, they say they did more work than they did, and once your car is in their hands, and taken apart, then suddenly you need to replace all this stuff that never gave you a problem before.............I've owned 2 ferrari's one Porsche and lived in Columbus about 7 miles from EVANS for about 12 years..........Many people I know have gone there and would never go back. EVER!! But let me say this, if you have gone or know people that have and they are happy, I really think that's great. I'm only passing on my personal experiences.
