Hi all, hoping someone has a solution suggestion... purchase a used 2002- 360 back in August.

Prior to purchasing maintenance records indicate that the following parts were replaced after diagnostics at the dealer.
    1. Fuel Pressure Sensor @ 2000 Miles [part # 179137]
    2. Valve/ Anti - Evap @ 4,600 Miles [part # 162412]

Drove the car for 500 Miles and CEL come on... my mechanic advised to replace the following:

    1. On and Off Valave for Evap System @ 5,400 Miles

All of these parts were replaced in response to errors received "Canister Purge Control System Error", my mechanic ran a diagnostic using a smoke machine in order to find a leak but none existing in the system.

I am now told it might be an issue with the ECU's and they may need to be flushed out... the ECU's are expensive to replace and I would hate to replace if not needed.

Has anyone ran into this problem before?
I read somewhere that a leaking gas tank cover might trigger this?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, a faulty, loosened gas filler cap will cause a CEL. Also a trapped tether between the cap and fuel filler neck.

Evap system is the cause of many CEL's on 360. Never seen it caused by an ECU though.

In fact evap CEL's are such a huge problem industry wide the tool companies have produced many pieces of equipment for diagnosis. Its really for 2 reasons, the Feds are trying to hold car makers to stupid standards and the car companies are trying to meet the standards with the cheapest quality parts they can source.

the CEL comes on sometime after 50 miles of driving and at other times much longer distance before it lights up again... I would like to think its the gas cap as no one i spoke to [except my mechanic...] has reported ECU being the sourve of the problem, took out the cap and inspected- the rubber gasket looks to be fine.

what does a faulty cap look like? anyone....

Challengehauler, can you clarify "....a trapped tether between the cap and fuel filler neck"?

    many thanks!
