NOT a PhotoShop! Actual offshore powerboat race (UIM) at one of the venues in the United Arab Emirates. The Victory Team - one of the most successful offshore powerboat teams - had a little mishap. :)

That's what happens with air entrapment hulls (aka cats) - when they catch too much air under the hull - they become a kites and "flyovers" can happen! Pretty amazing photo!

    Yep, it can happen!

Thanks, I hope all were OK???

One of the Unlimiteds came unstuck, and made a pretty fantastic series of photos in Powerboat recently...

IOGP pilots make some pretty white knuckled rides as well!

That is nuts. But the craziest thing I ever saw was an F1 boat race where the boat also did a blow over, but then it landed right side up and KEPT RACING!!! That was just amazing.

    I would hope so.

If I'm not mistaken the canopies are the same glass used on a F16. They also have fullface masks with oxygen, and a chase helicopter with rescue divers.

But what ever the case those are nasty wrecks.

They probably didn't trip. A trip will usually end up with a stuff. This was from just running too loose ... playing on the edge and kited it.

That pic reminds me of the clk flipping at LeMans.

Canopies are from a F16. They usually purchase them from surplus sources.

As for the CLK race car at Le Mans - I remember that exact video! Same concept - too much air underneath and all of a sudden you're a helpless passenger!

I bet that hurt. I agree the water looks good and don't know what caused the lift on the boat.

They have the boat races down here in MS, they looks just like the one in the pic Jeffrey posted. Last year, someone's boat flipped and one person was killed.

Actually there is a great new book out on classic racing powerboats that covers that Ferrari powered hydroplane in great detail.....found it at Half Price Books last month!!!!

The Ferrari boat is on the cover but it covers the history from 1918 on, when they started stuffing airplane engines in them....I'll look and get the title info...

Rest in Peace Jack Carmody, killed in Corpus Christi Bay, Texas.
His younger brother continued to race Hidden Agenda the following season, out of Austin, Texas..

It was my favorite team, gotta root for the local guys.

Jeffery you NEED this book on the racing boats, man. I'll go back by and see if they still have any, it was a big stack! I picked up one, and the pages were bound in upside down! LOL!

We'll send THAT ONE to the Victory Team......;)

BH1 that WOULD make a good NB ad....have you sent that in???

FerrariLord, that fatality in Biloxi was a very sad event......a testing run.

No safety crews out at the time. He was a very popular racer and a very good boat builder....a real shame....

    Play safe everyone!!!!!!
