So I get into my car this morning ('08 Granturismo) and I see something I have never seen before. Within a split second of starting the car, the dash read-out in the gauge cluster tells me "Caution Roads May Have Ice" and the outside temp (34 degrees at the time) starts flashing. A snowflake appears in the read-out and stays lit for my drive.

Having always lived in Florida and having never seen such a warning, I laughed out loud. I can't imagine the warning is helpful up North as drivers should be accustomed to icy conditions as a matter of course. Well...maybe our friends in Northern Florida or Georgia need a warning like that......these are unusual conditions for the South.

Anyone else notice this message on their cars?

Yep! Up here in the North (Minnesota) this is not such an issue. I think many cars of recent mfg have this warning system. I know my wife's 07 Mini Cooper S has it. However now that I think of it I'm not sure if our 09 CRV gives this warning around the freezing point. I'll have to ask the wife as the CRV is her winter car. She probably hasn't seen it for quite some time as the temperature has been well below zero for over a week!

On a car I used to have, it would have a display for the temperature, fuel economy, trip computer, etc.

If I was driving and the temperature went under 38 degrees, the display would flash the word ICE until I hit a button to stop it. It only happened once during the time I was in Florida and that was on Thanksgiving around Daytona in 1998 or 1990.

It happens on my Range Rover too. I've got one in West Virginia for when I work out of that office and it says it all the time in the winter - kind of annoying!
